Touchsmart 600 Fn key no longer functional

I have a fairly new touchsmart 600.  I used fn + f9 to turn off the monitor, also fn+ f10/f11 to adjust brightness.  Now, these keys do nothing when I hit them.  I was wondering if somehow I disabled this function?  I really liked being able to turn off my monitor using the keyboard.  I am not sure exactly what happened but I can not find any information on this on the pc or the web.  Please help. :smileyhappy:

Re: Touchsmart 600 Fn key no longer functional

Hello,

Try changing the batteries in this keyboard.

If this doesn't work and you get the same result, unplug the receiver from the back of the PC, usually on the bottom, and plug it in after 20 seconds and press the Sync button on the keyboard and mouse as well.

If this does not work, Boot up the computer, login, then clicks start, then type in "Hardware Diagnostic Tools" Without the quotes.

Browse through the menu to keyboard, then run all the diagnostics.

If the Fn key is not recognized in the diagnostics, then you need to call HP at:

I have more HP devices than you'd expect.
1 HP TouchPad 32 GB with Android
2 HP Touchsmarts (310-1000z and IQ527)
2 HP Printers (J6480 and J5750)
1 Laptop (HP DV6253CL)

Have at least some experience in each of those devices, and i'll do my best to help you.
Kudos if I helped!

Re: Touchsmart 600 Fn key no longer functional

The TouchSmart has a built-in receiver for communicating with the mouse and keyboard - you can't unplug that. The rest of the keybord is probably working fine (assuming the OP typed their post on the Touchsmart). I would rather guess that the service for handling the special keystrokes has stopped. Do the media control buttons (fn+F2 to fn+F8) still work?
