Re: Touchsmart IQ510 Wired connectivity problem

bugga!  the only other suggestions are, revert the settings for your LAN interface back to DHCP (as to your query in last post - using the static IP address shouldn't matter) and try and run another repair on it - if that don't work then try getting a cross-over cable and connect touchsmart pc and laptop direct with each other and try pinging each other after a few minutes or so (ipconfig - will provide you with the ip addresses of each pc).  if you see that the connection is lost again on the touchsmart then there is definetly some sort of bug or a h/w issue with it, that being the case log a call to hp. if no issues occur then you know something wrong with the netgear.  netgear support will be able to remotely connect to your router and diagnose it for you.

Re: Touchsmart IQ510 Wired connectivity problem

I've tried DHCP again, no luck. I don't have a cross-over cable.

As this happened with my old Belkin router as well as this one, and as my old XP PC worked fine with both routers, I'm taking this to be an HP not a Netgear issue. I'll get in touch with support.

Thanks for all your help, Jim, and John earlier.

Re: Touchsmart IQ510 Wired connectivity problem

An update on this problem after speaking to Tech support by phone:

Firstly, we tried uninstalling and reinstalling the network card. No luck, still flipped to "Limited Connectivity" after a few minutes.

Secondly, we completely uninstalled Norton Internet Security (including the symantec tool to get rid of absolutely everything). No luck.

Thirdly, we tried uninstalling and reinstalling the motherboard (chipset). No luck, though it does seem to go a bit longer now before the inevitable happens.

That is where we are so far - I was told that the next step would be to COMPLETELY WIPE THE PC AND REINSTALL FROM RECOVERY, to check it really isn't a software issue, before (if still not working) sending it back to them under warranty. This after I've spent 3 weeks or so installing software, copying everything over from my old PC,etc etc.

It's disappointing on several levels:

a) the problem is there at all

b) they haven't been able to fix it

c) they won't take the PC back under warranty unless you firstly accept a complete wipe clean and reinstall.

Given that the wireless connection works hitch-free, I will reluctantly decline this next stage, and just use the **bleep** thing wirelessly across the 20cm gap to my router.

Re: Touchsmart IQ510 Wired connectivity problem

This is the error i recieve when i disconnect :

Your computer was not able to renew its address from the network (from the DHCP Server) for the Network Card with network address 001CDFD1803F. The following error occurred:

The operation was canceled by the user.. Your computer will continue to try and obtain an address on its own from the network address (DHCP) server.

My connection drops out every 20 minutes:

I have tried every solution posted on forums throughout the Internet (probably) and have been searching for a fix for this disconnection issue for weeks & weeks & weeks now, to no avail. I've flushed the DNS, i've released the ip, i've renewed the ip, i've updated the network adapter, i've uninstalled the network adapter, i've re-installed the network adapter, i've disabled ipv6, i've disabled IEEE.802.1x, i've tried upgrading the modem firmware (none available). I have also, done a system restore and a factory restore - NOTHING WORKS ! I have contacted my ISP Provider, Bigpond for assistance (NOT ADVISED AS THEY ARE DOUCHEBAGS) - I've reset the modem router, i've switched all the cables, i've turned off the other computers that were connected to the Internet to see if it was one of them conflicting - but these computers also get disconnected every 20 minutes. I have also, Unplugged wireless phones on the same frequency, changed channels on my modem router - NOTHING WORKS !

The only thing really left to do is to try to assign an IP to my computer manually, But it would seem that after timbo_bobcat  changed his IP to static, it didn't seem to do a **bleep** thing.

Re: Touchsmart IQ510 Wired connectivity problem

just one thing left to do then, that is - get another wireless router/modem thingo. i use a netgear and have no issue, although I only use the wireless on my touchsmart and not the LAN cable.  If your using bigpond's cable, you need to open some ports - I can't remember which though cause i switched from bigpond cable to adsl2+ ages ago (something to do with bigponds heartbeat) - went with tpg (support sucks but hey all isp support suck).

Re: Touchsmart IQ510 Wired connectivity problem

That would be my suggestion too - the difference between your problem and mine is that yours occurs on several PCs - which suggests a router problem, not a PC problem. In my case, there is no problem with my old PC wired up on the same network.

See if you can borrow a router, rather than buying one...?

Re: Touchsmart IQ510 Wired connectivity problem

Yeh.

It's just frustrating. No-one else on the Network seems to notice the disconnection issue as much as i do because i am using a Chat Client to communicate to work mates and friends. I can't begin to explain how annoying it is having to re-connect every 20 minutes, not even being able to download files because the connection keeps cutting out (even if it is for only a brief second or two).

Stupid me went out and bought a new belkin modem router which cost about $400 - $500 (AUS) hoping that it would solve the problem but the problem persists. Even when i connect the old D-LINK Modem up and connect through it, the same disconnection issue arises.

What is odd is the fact that on some days (and when i say some days i mean RARE, very rare days) the connection will cut out every few hours instead of every 20 minutes, as if it is trying to fix itself.

I have tried nearly every suggestion posted on forums over the Internet, i've been to many sites and have had no luck. Bigpond technical support only seems interested in getting me to use their Modem. I don't see how this could really fix the disconnection issue which i am experiencing. I know its not a HP problem, because the same thing happened on my old computer before i bought this HP that i'm using now. Would this indicate a problem on Bigponds side? It's really the only other reasonable explanation as i have been through the modem router set up process over and over again to make sure that it is all set up correctly and i am very confident that it is.

I will try the Bigpond modem they are sending out, even though i don't really wish to connect it, especially after spending so much cash on this new modem. I'll also probably call them up again within the hour and pray like hell that i get someone who can speak good English and is able to be understood.

It puts me off calling my ISP up for technical support, especially when most of them are so hard to understand what is coming out of their mouths, asking them to constantly repeat themselves is just annoying, plain and simply annoying.

Re: Touchsmart IQ510 Wired connectivity problem

So a long time ago on my reqally old Compaq laptop I had the same dang issue.  after 20-60 minutes I lost internet connectivity and had to ipconfig /renew to reconnect.  After 4 long and aggrevating months I discovered that the issue was Zone Alarm.  I uninstalled the product and the problem went away.

So now i've got this TouchSmart TX2 and it has the same dang issue but I don't have Zone Alarm!

Grrrr

Re: Touchsmart IQ510 Wired connectivity problem

Hi there,

Please may I ask if you have resolved your Touchsmart IQ  connectivity problem? - I have a touchsmart  IQ830uk, but  I  wasn't having the same problem with old comp  &  old D Link Router.  Unfortunately crashed and burned - well certainly not to the same extent.

I am not tekky at all, but stagger around my pc in search......and am exhausted by exactly the same problem, only my wireless signal has hotspots it does not reach in the house and even that regularly comes up saying no networks available when the lan goes -

the hardwired disconnects 20 + times a day. I have, like you bought the newest expensive!!! n  router from Linksy, which does seems to give a little longer than the 20min  ---------------- changed all the cables and connections, bought new Antivirus, and Network Magic configuration, fixer - ( it now does the resetting for me, apart from unplugging the router ! -------------I have tried to connect to the modem ....................just on wireless, high hopes as it seem to last onger than 20mins - but then vanished - No network ....

spent hours with my provider Virgin Media here in the UK , who very politely each want to go through the re-connection procedure, which I could now probably do in my sleep..................... to be fair  they are now issuing a new modem,

plus tell me you have now found an answer????

Tired of living.... with Kind Regards,

Swissmiss
