Re: Two TouchSmart PCs in different locations die on same day with same error??? ( BIOHD-2 )

more news, but good news this time.

It seems that HP is now aware of this issue and is working on a firmware upgrade for the drive.

Unfortunately, there is no ETA for when this fix will be done.

Seagate just released their fix yesterday, so maybe the HP one will follow soon.

Lastest news (as of last night), is that the new firmware for the hard drive is at least 7 days out.

Keep your fingers crossed!

Re: Two TouchSmart PCs in different locations die on same day with same error??? ( BIOHD-2 )

just wanted to report that there is nothing happening on this front.

I have no called the HP folks like 5 times since my last post, but they are unable to give me any new information about this issue and when they will be able to resolve it.

4 out of 5 of the CSRs did not know about the Seagate issue! I had to educate them on the problem and ask them to look into it.

It seems that in most cases, folks (both users and HP reps) are just assuming that the drive has died and therefore go down the replacement router while kissing their data goodbye.

Still hoping that HP does something about this soon!

Re: Two TouchSmart PCs in different locations die on same day with same error??? ( BIOHD-2 )

i have a m8530f that is just a few months old.  it worked great last night, but this morning i woke up to a black screen.  i shut it down and rebooted to get the same error you did about "media missing, please press any key to reboot".  i did a hardware test and the CPU passed, as well as memory, but when i hit the hard drive it failed immeditely.  the error i got was "BIOHD-2".  I called HP, they had me check the cables, etc...and at the end of the call they want to send me a new hard drive.  i'm not sure if this will be the fix or not.  my hard drive i have is a 750gb seagate.  what i thought was weird is when i go into the BIOS settings where you can see all your devices, none show up...no dvd drvies, no hard drive....nothing.  they do work though as in, their not totally dead.  i can open the dvd try and the hard drive you can hear is making noises.  we will see what happens with the new hard drive.  just thought i would post this since i didn't find much info about this error with HP pc's.

since neither your hdd nor your dvd are showing up, this could be your SATA controller.

hvae you tried your drives in another pc or using an external drive closure?

Re: Two TouchSmart PCs in different locations die on same day with same error??? ( BIOHD-2 )

Just wanted to let all of you know that...

1) The newly posted firmware fix may not work for you right away

2) there is a solution!

I just unbricked my drive and recovered ALL OF MY DATA! I am making a back up as I type...

Here is the solution I posted:

Hope this helps!

Re: Two TouchSmart PCs in different locations die on same day with same error??? ( BIOHD-2 )

Glad it worked out for you.

In my case, I was threatened with being charged $700.00 for my busted drive if I did not give it to the HP tech that came to the house to swap out the drives.

Had I known a fix was in the making I would have threatened them for not allowing me time to try to recover the data.

Re: Two TouchSmart PCs in different locations die on same day with same error??? ( BIOHD-2 )

I am so glad I found this forum. My "new" iq505 died yesterday too. The exact same issue - frozen mouse, rebooted, blue screen, called HP, no HD detected. They want me to take out 13 screws and check cables. THEN they will send me a new hd to put in myself. I have option of getting it mailed back to HP - what to do? I am scared and want it to work properly asap - any advise. It sounds like seagate hd is bad - and hopefully they are replacing them.

??? confused and just want my computer back - I LOVED it, but now I am sick.
