Using a USB-to-video device such as the EVGA UV Plus+ 19 will not harm your computer and/or HDTV. The EVGA UV Plus+ 19 is an active device and is not just a passive cable. To the best of my knowledge, there isn't passive cable that will convert USB ports into HDMI ports.

Frank, Thanks for your suggestion. I  will  give it a try.  My only hesitation is that when I called HP support,  the technician said that HP does not recommend trying this as the  touchscreen function interferes with this approach.

The HP call center tech told me this

The HP tech is correct in that the touch operation can behave strangly when a USB to HDMI adapter is installed, but disconnecting it would resolve the issues, there is no "damage"

Thanks once again I will give it a try and report back. This is my first time using this forum and I am impressed with the helpfulness of all who responded .
