Re: WARNING - Do NOT clean install WINDOWS 7 on your touchsmart

I have an IQ524. I am getting ready to do a clean install of windows 7 pro. I am currently running the rtm (64 bit). Am I to understand that the links below are the software links to install the touchsmart software from scratch?

Re: WARNING - Do NOT clean install WINDOWS 7 on your touchsmart

Found the following article on the HP site.  It was not there earlier today and now it is there.

Hope this helps.  I am updating all my Windows Updates before I do the upgrade to Win7.

There are a list of items that HP has listed for work-arounds for things that are not Win7 compliant yet.

I have Win7 installed my by HP laptop with NO problems and it runs great.   Next is my TouchSmart IQ504t!

This article also discusses doing a Full install as well.

I would think its unoffiical...  the files I think are copies from vishnu's recovery partition.

You could of course first try to install the touchsmart S/W from your recovery partition after installing win7 and then download the win7 x64 touchsmart  v3.0 updates for your touchsmart PC.  I had some missing bits from my recovery partition and I downloaded from those links and installed fine.

Re: WARNING - Do NOT clean install WINDOWS 7 on your touchsmart

Hi Vishnu,

Yes I still do have that error, it might be because i'm running TS 3.0 and not TS 2

Re: WARNING - Do NOT clean install WINDOWS 7 on your touchsmart

Yes. Notes.msi that you downloaded from my links belong to 2.0 and there was touchsmart 3.0 on your pc the time you did this..... That might be the reasons. Try to find updates for notes application and see if that helps.

Re: WARNING - Do NOT clean install WINDOWS 7 on your touchsmart

[ Edited ]

I have all my OSD stuff, vol control etc,... working

have you installed all the HP Windows 7 x64 drivers yet for your model of touchsmart pc yet?

Click on the "Support & Drivers" and enter your PC Model, then click on the Windows 7 Drivers.  You should find a list of drivers there for your PC.

You'll also find updates to Touchsmart Software, this version is much better than the earlier version imo and is only supported on Windows 7.

also you should note taken from the following URL:  TouchSmart Software for Windows 7

TouchSmart software that came with the IQ500 and IQ800 TouchSmart PCs do not have full functionality when Windows Vista is upgraded to Windows 7. To get full functionality, download and install all available TouchSmart Software Solution updates version 3.0 or greater from your TouchSmart PC's Software and Driver Download page . All or some updates might not be available when Windows 7 is generally available to the public (October 22, 2009).
HP is working hard to make solutions available as soon as possible. To get the latest updates as they become available, ensure HP Update software is active or periodically check your HP TouchSmart PC's Software and Driver download page.

Re: WARNING - Do NOT clean install WINDOWS 7 on your touchsmart

Hi Vishnu,

I have also lost the use of my HP Smart Center on my HP TouchSmart IQ772.uk Desktop PC after clean install of Windows 7.  I followed your instruction to check my Touchsmart Setup on my D Drive and found that there are many such files as you have mentioned.  Do I go through all these files setting them up one by one?  Or is there one specific file to re-install my Smart Center?  I have also got the recovery saved on DVDs, would these be a better option?

This is the response I got from HP Help & Support:

"HP Customer Care http://welcome.hp.com/country/uk/en/support.html

Dear Swaroop,

Thank you for your reply.

I understand your concern.

I really wish I could provide you a solution, but I am afraid it is not possible to install the HP Smart Center. I did consult my supervisor as well regarding the same.

HP Smart Center is HP proprietor software. Hence the HP Smart Center will not be present in the retail version of windows 7 operating system.

However, even in windows 7 there is a touch screen application which is similar to the HP Smart Center, hence you can use it instead of HP Smart Center.

We truly apologize regarding the same."

Here is a screenshot of my HP Touchsmart files on my D Drive:  er...how do I insert/upload a screenshot?

Re: WARNING - Do NOT clean install WINDOWS 7 on your touchsmart

The file would read as any of the following approximately, HP Touch, HP Touchsmart, SmartCenter, Touchsmart MVP, SmartCal, Touchsmart Cal, Smart Notes, Touchsmart Notes, HP Touchsmart (itself), Setup HP Touch, Config Tools HP Touchsmart.... ( you would either find Touch or Smart phrases ). Once you identify the files starting with any of above, you need to double click "src" folder where you would find the setup/installation file. You just have to scroll up and down and identify HP Touchsmart.exe or setup.exe etc (Basically an executable file) and doubleclick to install them. Ideally you would need to install HP Touchsmart application, Touchsmart notes, Touchsmart MVP (Music/Video/Pictures), Touchsmart Touch Config and Touchsmart Calendar.
