Re: WARNING - Do NOT clean install WINDOWS 7 on your touchsmart

Thank you very much, I see what you mean, much appreciated.  Another couple of questions please, would these be compatible with Windows 7, if not are there updates for them available?  If I re-install all the Touchsmart Center apps, would I still be able to use Windows 7's own touch screen application?  :smileyhappy:

Re: WARNING - Do NOT clean install WINDOWS 7 on your touchsmart

Thanks to all!

I did I fresh install.  Updated the drivers and recovered my files (pictures, email, etc) from my Mozy.com backup.

My machine runs MUCH faster and LOVE the window changes/improvements in Win7.

Well Done Sylvia and thanks for your feedback, good to know that your system is running better now, mine is too except for losing my HP Smart Center, which I hope I can restore with help from this forum.

What do you mean a fresh install?  Was this after you had installed Windows 7 the first time?

I now just love Windows 7! :smileyhappy:

Re: WARNING - Do NOT clean install WINDOWS 7 on your touchsmart

Sylvia, you mention that you have installed Win 7 on your HP Laptop and next is your TouchSmart IQ504t, have you bought 2 copies of Win 7 or are you using the same one?  If so, would appreciate to know how you are doing this because I have a laptop with Vista Premium pre installed for my daughter and if possible, I would like to upgrade her laptop?  Thank you.

Jim

How did you do a clean install.

I tried booting from disc but i get an error 10 minutes through the windows 7 install.

Do I need everything updated on vista before a clean install.

Would like to get windows 7 clean installed. I have 64bit vista

Re: WARNING - Do NOT clean install WINDOWS 7 on your touchsmart

a clean install means that you boot from dvd win 7 setup disk, select custom install and use the option to install win 7. this will format your c: drive, all data and installed programs will be lost.  i have also got win 7 rtm disks and not the hp upgrade disk - i do not know if the hp upgrade disks have the option for a clean install.

if you know why the upgrade hangs, u might want to uninstall what ever is causing the hang and try again the upgrade.  symantec would be a candidate

Re: WARNING - Do NOT clean install WINDOWS 7 on your touchsmart

Jim thanks for the response figured it out last night I had a bad dvd drive I had a hunch cause it was making funny grinding noises and vibrating. I have the upgrade windows 7 so i loaded it on a usb stick and booted from there with a clean install. it installed very fast.

Now I will need a little help getting some hp programs back from the d: partition hows the touchsmart software on windows 7. Was it easy to get from the partition. I read that you did that. any other worthy programs i should try to install back from the d: partition. I basically did a clean install to give me a nice fresh copy without all the extras hp installs.

Re: WARNING - Do NOT clean install WINDOWS 7 on your touchsmart

I suppose it all depends what you want to recover - the only thing you probably need or want to install is to touchsmart/smart center User Iinterface 2.x and then get all the updates from the HP Support download page. yu could probably still download the software from those links in this thread.

Re: WARNING - Do NOT clean install WINDOWS 7 on your touchsmart

Can't help with backgrounds, however, for your OSD stuff and alike, download the HP Vista x64 driver and again using winrar extract the exe and run the setup.exe.  That got my OSD and touchsmart start button working...
