Windows 7 and Multi Touch on IQ790

Hello

I am wondering if there is a multi touch driver available for this model.

As far as I know this model also uses the NextWindow Hardware which is multi touch capable and uses FTIR but as of yet the driver they provide is only for the IQ500, IQ800, and DX9000 series: http://www.nextwindow.com/nextwindow_support/windriver.html

Does anyone know if a multi touch driver will be provided by them or by HP at some point.

I tried contacting NextWindow but they have not replied yet.

Thanks

Robin

There is no multi-touch driver support for the particular device on the IQ700 series.

Re: Windows 7 and Multi Touch on IQ790

Thanks for the reply, but can anyone confirm that the hardware is touch-capable and the touchscreen component is provided by NextWindow so the device should be able to handle two simultaneous touch events. So it is just a question of waiting for proper driver support in Windows 7 instead of the mouse emulation driver which is installed by default.

Thanks

Don't think IQ770 came with multitouch. Multitouch was introduced from IQ500 and IQ800 series. Any how you could try:

Re: Windows 7 and Multi Touch on IQ790

Mine is the IQ790 though. Is that the same as for the IQ770?

I have already tried installing the driver on my machine but it just gets to about 99% and then uninstalls itself and says an unexpected error occurred and to try setup again. It does exactly the same thing on another machine without a touch screen so I'm thinking either the driver isn't finding the expected hardware or possibly there is some other problem. Looking through information I found it seems the IQ790 uses an older firmware than the IQ800 so it may be thay if I could upgrade the firmware the driver may work.

When touching the screen when a second finger is placed on the screen the screen makes a lower pitched beep than the first press with a touble tap generating a higher pitched beep.

From what I have read the system uses a NextWindow touch screen which supports two fingers (using infrared light and two cameras) at once as opposed to the N-trig hardware which supports more than two (using full FTIR).

As far as I can tell there is just a lack of drivers and if the proper drivers were provided then in theory it should support multi touch (I may be wrong though!). I'm hoping this is the case and that at some point the drivers will be developed.

Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks

Robin

Re: Windows 7 and Multi Touch on IQ790

All the IQ700 series is single touch only on Vista and Win 7. It was launched with the first release of Vista so I doubt it'll work. You might end up messing up your system trying to load that multi-touch driver. I doubt it'll even install.

Re: Windows 7 and Multi Touch on IQ790

Ok thanks for the reply.

It is still good with single touch and I got it from John Lewis's for £450 so I can't complain really!

I have now managed to enable the touch features on Windows 7 and get the Touchsmart software working as well.

Re: Windows 7 and Multi Touch on IQ790

Hello Andy

Sorry it's taken me a while to reply.

I just installed the drivers for multi touch drivers which are here: http://multitouchvista.codeplex.com/

They turned out to be for multi mouse mode so weren't any use but they are detected by Windows 7 as a multi touch device which is also shown in My Computer Properties which automatically enables all the touch features.

Before it said no touch or pen input device detected.

It is because older touch screens just use mouse emulation mode so Windows 7 just sees it as a mouse device.

There may be another way to enable this though, probably via a registry hack or something.

Let me know if you ever find a proper multi-touch driver for this computer which is actualy multi-touch capable if someone would just take the time to develop a driver for it.
