Hello,
I just bought today a HP touch smart 520 1138
The internal speakers are not working. No sound at all.
The audio beats startup file can`t be find by the system.
I download the driver that HP is giving... but the system refused it with a 9996 error message.
Is there someone who can help me to solve the problem ?
thanks
David

Hello chinyama:
Hello your computer came with a one year warranty. Use your HP Support Assistance and connect to HP Direct Support. Tell operator that you want his or her supervisor at ounce and demand a worker order for your computer for speakers repair. Try not to be to polite to them they will walk all over you. You should have taken it back to the store and exchanged it for another one. Two months have past sence then. They will fix it. To find BeatsAudio software open control panel on top right side you see view by. Change it to large icons look for Realtec HD Audio Manger and click on that. frrw

Assuming you have a hardware issue we can start planning on what hardware fixes may need to be done. First before we can assume it's a hardware issue we have to rule out software as the problem.
The first thing you can do is try a Microsoft fix it solution to see if the tool can identify and resolve the issue. You can get the tool directly from Microsoft's website.
Try running the tool and posting back the results.

Hello,
If your speakers are not working and if, lets just say for example, either the internal cable is disconnected or they are really faulty, you should have a red cross over the sound icon at your system tray. Since no speakers are enabled, the system would behave in this manner.
Can you check the sound icon on the bottom right corner of your screen and see what is there?
SInce you have warranty, i also recommend you to contact HP support and be yourself only, dont need to be rude, the issue is pretty simple, no sound from speakers, they would need to confirm the issue with you and then they would send the unit for repair.
THanks,

Hello
I have just set up my second touchsmart, I returned the first one because the speakers did not function...the speakers on the 2nd one don't function either.
HP support was not able to resolve the first computer's issue and i have my doubts about the second one
I have a hard time believing 2 computers both with the same hardware problem, its got to be something else.
The speaker icon is as it should be, sound test is effective with external speakers but not the internal ones
If I can't resolve this issue I will to return it too and get a whole different computer...who knows it may not be a HP
Thanks for any help

Which Touchsmart do you own?
Can you try running this Microsoft tool and letting me know what the results are.

If the tool found no problems then it appears all the drivers are properly installed and the settings are correct on the system. The sound works if you use external speakers, but not if you use the monitor speakers. Just to verify though you did run the tool without the external speakers connected correct?
Let's check the simple things.
Right click on the speaker icon on your computer and go to playback devices. What is listed as the default sound device? It will have a green check mark next to it.
What other options are there?
Next on the right side of your computer is the volume keys. Please make sure the volume is turned up to about half way (at least).
Finally I want to see what drivers are installed on the computer
1. Click start
2. Right click on Computer and select properties
3. On the left hand side select Device Manager
4. Now go down to Sound and video controllers
Expand that selection and tell me what is listed.
