Hello a976:
Welcome to HP's forum. I need more information about your computer. Example mine is HP Touchsmart 600-1050 Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit Version 3 Touchsmart software. This way I or some one else can provide you the correct links for your computer's fixes. I could guess but I want to send you the right information on breaking down your computer to excess your Optical Drive. My eject button had the spring disconnect when I first got it. Yours might have the same issue or similar one.
