hp simplepass

Hi, I bought my HP a few weeks ago and was able to use simplepass right away. Now the light that is usually to the left of the bar wont let up and when I click on HP Simplepass in the start menu I receive the message "Sensor not connected. Please connect sensor and try again." How do I go about doing this so I can continue to use the simplepass?

Please use plain text.

Re: hp simplepass

Hi Joe,

Do you know if you changed anyting?

Regardless,

You may get away with just reinstalling the Validity Sensor Driver.

Instructions:

SimplePass Versions – software and driver versions “go together”:

SimplePass 2011 V5.0.1.455 - software controls the password database

Goes with

Validity Sensor 4.3.118.0 - driver controls the fingerprint hardware

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SimplePass 2012 V5.3.1.7

Goes with

Validity Sensor Driver 4.3.205.0  (or later)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Remember:  Install Drivers FIRST - THEN the software.

Check for Current Validity Sensor Driver Version

One of the paths to get this information…

Control Panel > “view by” icons > Biometric Devices > Properties > Driver >

Look at “Driver Version”

Check for Current SimplePass Software Version:

Control Panel > Programs and Features > Scroll down (sort by Name, if desired) >

Look for HP SimplePass > Look in Column “Version

Reinstall the Current Validity Sensor Driver:

  • Control panel > icon view > Device Manager > Biometric Devices > Validity Sensor > Uninstall
  • Scan For Hardware Changes (or Restart / Reboot)

OR

Installation from the Driver Store (device drivers already in the computer):

Unless they are removed, all device drivers are stored in the computer.  It’s a bit tedious to track them down and one needs a specialized program to reuse these drivers.  Fortunately, the system keeps track of the drivers it needs and can frequently reinstall a driver from this source.  All you need to know is the correct Version; for example “4.3.205.00”.

Control Panel > icons > Device Manager > Biometric Devices > Right-Click Validity Sensor … >

Update Driver Software > Browse my computer for driver software >

"Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my system" >

Select the proper device Version from the list >   Next

                     Restart / Reboot the computer

Re: hp simplepass

Michelatrip,

You did not say what kind of notebook you have - it is hard to diagnose without the product number.

Two things to consider / try:

If the SimplePass program itself was updated to a new version, then the Validity Sensor Driver may need to be updated.  The driver and the software versions are "matched sets" and must be in line with each other.

Check your version of SimplePass to see which version of the Driver you need.

Example:

SimplePass 2011 V5.0.1.455 - software controls the password database

Goes with

Validity Sensor 4.3.118.0 - driver controls the fingerprint hardware

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SimplePass 2012 V5.3.1.7 (This version may be called simply SimplePass 2012.)

Goes with

Validity Sensor Driver 4.3.205.0 (or later)

NOTE:  SimplePass Digital Persona is different software and is NOT addressed here.

=========================================================================

Two ways to update the Validity Sensor driver:

Control panel > Device Manager > Biometric Devices > Right-Click Validity Sensor > Update Driver

OR

General Installation Instructions (Excerpted):

Go to the top of this Forum page - to Support and Drivers

  • Enter your notebook model number
  • Open the HP web page for your Product / Model
  • Go to the Software and Drivers Downloads page
  • Enter your Operating System
  • Scroll down - Go to category Driver – Keyboard, Mouse and Input Devices
  • Select “Validity Fingerprint Sensor Driver” (Newest Version)
  • Save this installation package onto your computer.  Make a note of the file's NAME and its location.

  • Go to category Software - Security section and click to open it.
  • Select the SimplePass package
  • Save this installation package onto your computer.  Make a note of the file's NAME and its location.
  • Install the Validity Sensor Driver installation package:  It will be named sp*.exe – the package will most likely be located in the Downloads folder.  If you have ‘Admin’ control, you may highlight the package and “double-click” to install it, else Right-Click, Select ‘run as Administrator’ and install.
  • Reboot / Restart the notebook

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Once the program software (SimplePass) and the Driver (Validity Sensor) versions match, it may start working again as it should.

==========================================================================

If you still have problems, Kick the notebook with a Hard Reset to reconnect all the devices.  What does that mean?  A hard reset is a means of disconnecting and then reconnecting the hardware devices to the computer and the programs that control them.

A fingerprinter is a hardware device.  The Device Manager is used to "detect" the connection between the fingerprinter and the computer.  The Validity Sensor Driver is used to communicate the instructions necessary for you to use the device.  All of these "bits" have to line up and be in agreement for the fingerprinter to work properly.   Finally, the SimplePass software is used to read the output from the fingerprinter and control the password database.

Hard Reset:

Sometimes all you need to do is kick the computer.  This method works for a variety of connection and ‘stuck’ program issues.

  • Disconnect all external devices first.
  • Remove AC power and the battery
  • Press and hold power button for at least 30 seconds
  • Reinstall only AC power for first startup ** See Note
  • Power on - Log in
  • Next time you shut down the system, reinstall battery.

** Note:  If time is short, reinstall battery the first time and be done with it.

I hope this helps!
