Hi Mikef2000:
You need to change your library settings from current one to include Itunes library, Touch lower right corner icon. Looks like a tiny window . Then touch on settings icon looks like a lock washer under music notes. Three options are availadle. HP Touchsmart Media Library , Use my Itune's library and Rhapsody music store. Check mark Itune's Library. You are all set now. Enjoy your music.

Hi. Thanks for the response. I don't have anything like that. I can get to settings on the music area and tell it to use my Itunes library but there's no choice as you suggest. It doesn't seem to do the job and carries on only playing MP3s. I have touchsmart 4.0 if that helps

That's all you need to do. Assuming all your music files have already been added to iTunes (via the iTunes program).

Thanks again but that is exactly what I have done but it still skips all the m4a tracks and only plays the mp3s. I think I will give up and just use Itunes. the touchsmart software seems a waste of time to me

Are you sure they are .m4a tracks and not .m4p tracks?
All my .m4a tracks play fine if I use my iTunes library in the TouchSmart music app; however, only Apple software and Apple devices can play .m4p tracks from the iTunes store...
