no display HP Touchsmart IQ846

I have an HP Touchsmart 25.5" IQ846 that has no display purchased Sept 2009.  Computer had been working fine then one day, no display. When I turn the computer on, I can hear the windows 7 music but my screen is blank.  I can remote desktop in and I can see my desktop icons.  I have tried HP's recommended F5/F10 to reset the bios, nothing,  I have also receded the video card as recommended.  When I called back today, they suggested another procedure where I plug in the power, wait a minute, unplug then press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.  They also suggested to power on the computer take a flashlight and look at the screen on an angle, if I can see my desktop icons they feel the backlight is gone, if I do not see anything it is probably my motherboard. 

Anyone out there have similar problem, we paid good money $1999.00 for this computer and not happy it is not working after such a short time.....

If you can hear music and remote access then the motherboard is still good.

Do you see the "splash" screen when you first boot up? If not, I'm tempted to believe the back light has gone out. Are you still under warranty?

I have seen a white flash when I power it on but will confirm when I get home and can't remember if it happens each time I power up..  I am no longer under warranty but I am willing to invest  a reasonable amount to repair.  Will advise once I check the computer again, thank you.

I did verify when I got home that I do have the white flash as the computer boots up, I hear the windows music, if I touch the screen I get the usual beep.  I also tried putting the flashlight on an angle and looking at the screen but could not see any desktop icons....

Any ideas??   As I mentioned previously, it is not under warranty.

HP is sending me a box to ship my touchsmart back to them for repair, they feel it is either the backlight or video card.  My cost for repair $100.00 which is excellent.
