I would assume it will upgrade. Can't say for sure though. Never know what HP has up their sleeve. I'm not sure you would get much improvement though. You may need a video upgrade and I don't think their is a way to do it. also if internet is slow then you may have virus, spyware, or malware in general. If you can backup and restore windows, or better yet if you have access to a vista cd.
another thing I did was go to msconfig and disable all startup programs and it sped up my system tremendously. HP has soo much stuff being loaded that it was bogging everything down.
also, if you upgrade your cpu, remember that it will generate more heat and you hay need to upgrade your cooling system. These things are just big laptop computers that aren't portable and very limited on processing power and upgrade options. If you do much more than email, office stuff and a bit of picture editing, you may need to upgrade.
Good luck

I think you currently have Core 2 Duo T5850 2167 Mhz - your limited to these type of processes - the FSB on the e8400 will not suit.
CPU/Processor
- Socket: P (for mobile processors)
- Supports the following processors:
- Core 2 Duo (M core) 35W max
- Core 2 Duo (P core) 35W max
NOTE: Supports P core with front side bus speed of 800MHz only.
- 800 and 667 Mhz
- Intel Mobile GM965 Express
Your best option "might" (might in quotes) be the T7800 but you really need to check that first... (is the extra 433MHz worth it?)
