windows 8

[ Edited ]

I was going to update os to windows 8, but first did some reading to found out how well windows 8 works with hp touchsmart 420. Got my answer doesn't work... well hp you got one angry person. I bought this pc in February because it being touch screen and as many thought that it will take my pc to the next os... this pc is only 5 months old. I gave up a 5 year old laptop that I did have windows 8 beta on, it worked great with it., for all in one that will not work with windows 8.. I am telling hp for a 5 month old they better get this pc up to date on the next os. I have never heard of a 5 month old pc not being able to go to the next os of windows due to hp being lazy and getting the drivers to work or whatever needs to be done for people like me that bought this for the next os!!! Windows 8 had been out for a long time now from beta to almost being released to the public, and hp still don't have it working on the touchsmart pc. If it’s not going to run then I want my money back take your pc and I’ll buy one from a company that’s got it together for the next os!!!! and yes I’m angry even when I ordered this I called on the phone and talked to someone told them I wanted a touch screen to be able to take me to the next os windows seen I knew windows 8 was touch ready. Well seems that my pc 5 months old can't have windows 8… I’m sure I’m not going to be the only angry person out there that expects there pc to be able to run windows 8… I think hp will lose lots of customers, if they don’t get it together fast... this is bull thanks hp for taken care of your customers. on your web site you might want to put all in one pc touchsmart doesn't work with windows 8 so people don't buy it like me and get ripped off of the next os coming out in alike two months. thanks now i can't go out and buy it to put on my pc...

Re: windows 8

Hello ginger822,

Windows 8 is still not in a full release. It is in late stages of beta, however anything can change, a lot of time and effort is not always put into ensuring everything works and to the up most standards while things are in beta environments as the resources have to then be spent ensuring it works to the standards of the release.

Once Windows 8 is actually released to the public we will have a better understanding of what will be supported and what will not be supported and to what degree. You are using a newer computer so I don't see any reason why it would not work, however anything is possible.

In short we have to wait before we can state with any definitiveness that it will not work.

Re: windows 8

I did the same thing except I bought my computer last month. That was plenty of time for them to develop drivers and the sales person told me it would work fine with Windows 8. I downloaded customer preview it everything worked fine. Yesterday the full version came out Windows sent me the 14.99 upgrade and i downloaded it and nothing works. They still have no drivres posted for this computer. I may report them to the BBB if they cannot get me proper drivers

Re: windows 8

Got a 5 month old touchsmart 610 & got my £ 14.99 Window's 8 upgrade offer today only to find when running the Window's 8 compatibility software I have a list of about 15 or so items not compatible with Window's 8 .

Most are minor thing's that I could get by without or thing's like software updates for other installed programmes but the main concern for me is the fact that the upgrade assistant tell's me that the touchscreen capability of my machine was not designed for use with Window's 8 and that it may not work at all or not be as smooth scrolling.

The Question I would like to ask is are HP working on updates and fixes so that touchsmarts will work with Window's 8 or are we advised to stick with Window's 7 ?

Re: windows 8

The touch on the 610 works fine for the basic touch moves. BUT if you have an app that has the ability to use more than 2 touch points (a touch piano app for example) than the 610 will only recognize 2 touches out of the 10 that a "windows 8" compatible will offer. My personal opinion is that 10 touch will be very limited in app development. I have the 610 and touch is working awesome.

Re: windows 8

touch works great with windows 8 pro at first when you install windows pro screen is so big on my but i go to windows updates do the updates to my geforce gt video card update to the vol touch driver and after the updates everything works great... problem now is some software like avast that i could use on the windows 8 preview seem to give problem with the windows 8 pro version... i get error Irql_Not_Less_or_Equal" aswnet.sys and pc restarts... won't let me install any other software when avast is in pc... so i uninstalled it pc seem to be working good again... just watch what you install some things are not completly ready even if the software says works with windows 8..... and after windows 8 pro came out it did update all my intel drivers and video card driver finally...

Re: windows 8

Try this if your touch screen doesn't work after installing Windows 8 and the latest drivers:

Press the Windows logo key plus X. Select Device Manager from the list. In Device Manager, click the little triangle next to Display adapters. Highlight the graphics card name (in my case, AMD RADEON HD6410D Graphics), right click, and select Disable. Click yes on the window that opens that says "Disabling this device will cause it to stop functioning. Do you really want to disable it?" Restart your computer and try your touch screen again.

Re: windows 8

Work's fine for me .  Just make sure you mannually update windows and select the optional updates after installing win 8. Bluetooth and lan drivers were unselected in the optionals along with a couple of others .
