HP Touchsmart 300 screen remains black

HP Touchsmart 300

Windows 7

When the computer is turned on, the screen remains black.

The fan is on, the power light remains blue instead of turning amber, and the light is on at the power supply on the back of the computer.

Removed the RAM and two continuous beeps when turning the computer on.

Is the mother board fried or is this a power supply issue?

Re: HP Touchsmart 300 screen remains black

HP Touchsmart,

Thank you for that information.

Try a hard reset first:

1.       Remove all cables and connections from the computer including the power cord

2.       Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds

3.       Just reconnect the mouse, keyboard, and power only

When you turn the computer back to try to access the BIOS menu:

1.       Turn the computer on and immediately start tapping the F10 key.

2.       If successful you should be on the bios setup utility screen.

3.       On the first screen you should see a couple drives

4.       One drive is the CD drive the other is the hard drive

5.       Select the hard drive

6.       Click smart support

7.       Then run the short test an then the long test

Please respond back at your earliest convenience.

Thanks

Please respond back when possible.

Re: HP Touchsmart 300 screen remains black

No Windows startup sound when booting normal.

Screen remains black while the fan is running.

Power indicator on top right hand corner remains blue and does not change to amber color.

Thanks

Re: HP Touchsmart 300 screen remains black

HPTouchsmart,

If you feel comfortable I would like you to reseat the RAM and hard drive. That really just means to remove the components and reinsert them.  The two links below will show you how to remove the components. Please make sure you are grounded well before starting the process, a quick way to make sure is by rubbing your hands across a metal object.

How to remove the hard drive - You do not have to physically remove the hard drive from the cage.

Even with the hard drive and ram removed - no change to the black screen.

With the hard drive and ram removed - the screen remained black and there was a "beeping" pattern of two sounds, but no change to the black screen.

Re: HP Touchsmart 300 screen remains black

HPTouchsmart,

With the RAM out and the system beeping on boot, that means that motherboard is recognizing that it is missing important hardware. So that is a good thing.

At this point what we can do is very limited, what I suggest is that you have someone have a look at the Touchsmart. I am not sure of  your warranty status but you can check in this link. If the computer is still under warranty by all means allow the warranty to correct the problem.

Right now you have a lot of different possibilities of what he's causing this issue.
