I have a 990cxi printer that will print a new file upon demand but it also prints parts of an old file that I had printed about a year or so ago on the same page, i.e., the final hard copy shows the new material but it is superimposed upon the old material. Thus, I hve a double image with the old file on the same paper as the new file. How do I get rid of that old file ?

Try stopping the Print Spooler. That should eliminate all print jobs. Then enable the Print Spooler and restart the computer.
I am a support engineer for HP.
If the advice resolved the situation, please mark it as a solution. Thank you.

What operating system? Are you sure you have fresh paper in the printer? The Deskjet 990 series does not have any internal memory that would keep a print job beyond a power cycle of the printer.
