Duplexing shrinks pages

My Officejet Pro 8000 Wireless (A809n) has a duplexer. When I print from MS Word (Windows 7) the pages shrink by 0.25 inches top and bottom. Word is set to 0.75 inch margins all round, and the header and footer are set to 0.6 inches from the page edge, so I am within the device spec of 0.47 inches for duplexing.

If I print without duplexing, or with duplexing enabled but only one page, no shrinkage occurs.

Can I stop the printer shrinking my pages when duplexing?

Re: Duplexing shrinks pages

I have the same problem with a deskjet 5650 under Windows 7. I don't have the duplexer but am using manual duplexing.  Have you had any success in solving the problem?

Re: Duplexing shrinks pages

Try unchecking the "preserve layout" box.  the preserve layout option shrinks the page to make it fit on a duplexed page with larger margins.

Re: Duplexing shrinks pages

I tried unchecking the "preserve layout" box as you suggested. It had no effect on the shrinking of the page.

I did find a workaround. One can also accomplish manual duplexing by printing first with "print only odd pages" selected and then with "print only even pages" selected. No shrinking occurs when duplexing this way. I wish HP would get its act together and put out a proper driver for Windows 7.
