HP Photosmart C7280 Magenta not working

I recently replaced 4 of the cartridges from a Value pack. The Magenta (red) will not print. It prints yellow instead. The display and HP Solution centre both show the cartridge as being full. I have switched the printer off, I have reset it back to factory settings and still it will not print red. It was working fine up until I replaced the cartridges a week or so ago. The only other thing is that I did have a paper jam where it took in several sheets of paper instead of one and I had to remove the back and take the paper out carefully.

I really do not know what else to try or how to get it fixed and am at a loss without it.

I'm having the same trouble. I'm guessing the jets are blocked but there is no guidance on how to clean them. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I am also unable to print magenta as of a few weeks ago.  My problem was not triggered by a cartridge change.  Any ideas would be helpful.  Wouldn't it be great if HP actually reviewed these forums and offered a hint.  I'm about ready to find a new printer.

We paid £60 callout for a local repairman to look at our machine (which cost over £100 to buy so we thought it would be worth doing). He says that the design has changed. With the older printers the new cartridge came with a new printhead and both were changed at th same time. Now it doesn't, so we actually need new printheads fitting. Needless to say, they are not currently in stock (its the first time he's been called to one of these) and doen't as yet know how much the replacements will cost. If I were you I'd just buy a new machine - a cheaper one with cheaper ink cartridges!!! That way you can throw it away when it goes faulty.

Done all that.

HP referred me to their preferred partner (not in Sheffield) who were the ones telling me to get a local  repair chappie to look at it as they would charge too much. He couldn't repair it and says that HP tell him they do not provide spares for this machine!!!!!!

We look like binning a machine valued over £100. Needless to say we won't be buying an HP replacement.

After trying the HP reset (* and # followed by 123, etc), try printing the epson color test page (http://inkjetprinterhelp.us/Color.html).  the first time i had adjusted the darkness setting for magenta and black.  the second print I changed it back.  My red was back, but the black was off.  next i print the chart in gray scale.  Next i print in gray scale (Black ink only).  The printer initialize the head cleaning process.  then I print the test page again...full color.  All color was working as it should be.  finally i test it with a photo.  Print like new.  I guess with all of the color printing, it purge the system.  It worked for me after weeks of searching the internet  and trying everything but dismantling the system.  I had purchase authentic HP cartridges (replacing all of  the previous authentic hP cartridges) at a great expense.
