My Office Jet Pro is leaking magenta ink. I noticed this when replacing the catridge for a second time in less than a month. My question is what is causing the problem and is there anyway to fix it? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have exactly the same problem, and an HP tech rep told me that about 4 out 10 reported the same problem. So this is a printer defect. People out there with the same problem at the printer should ask HP to recall this lemon product.

I have the same problem with the Office Jet Pro 8500. The magenta ink leaks on the left side of the paper. I go through a cartridge a month or about 20 pages. I purchased this printer last September.

Hi folks
Are the ink tubes kinked or bent?
See Figure5 in the link below
Thanks, Ciara

I JUST REPLACED my magenta ink. its empty again... noticed a huge spill on the entire bottom of printer...leaking out the bottom. Can this be fixed? If I clean it up, it still dosen't explain why it leaked in the first place

My printer is 18 months old.
Just spent £50.00 on replacement cartridges; printer refused to recognise them as they were compatibles.
Spent aqnother £150.00 on genuine cartridges and printheads.
Still magenta cartridge not recognised.
Printer spilling magenta ink all over floor.
I could have bought a new printer from Curry's for £139.97
Answer:
Buy a new printer, pay the £32.00 for 3 year warranty extension. when it runs out throw printer away and buy a new one. HP are not interested in solving this problem.

The problem arises if and when you change the printheads on the right hand side.
The ink tubes feeding ink from the cartridges to the printheads get trapped under the printheads when you change them.
You can't see what you are doing; that is the problem.
Once trapped, as the carriage moves back and forth, the pipe(s) get kinked and entually split open.
The ink gets pumped out all over the place.
I am investigating to see whether the ink tubes are available as a replacement from HP.
On their parts website only the ink supply station is listed (part no: CB092-67028)
This is described as:
Ink supply service station (ISS) assembly - Holds the ink cartridges and pumps ink out to the printheads.
It sounds expensive.
I have also tried to dismantle the printer to see if I could do this repair.
I only got so far. It's a bit like taking a clock mechanism apart.
You don't know whether the bits will go back together again.

Hi karenlefave1957
Have you contacted HP phone support about this?

Add me to the list of mysterious magenta ink leaks. I have been through two cartridges back to back with-in one week. The first one I wrote off to being a bad cartridge. Took it back and got a replacement for free from OfficeMax. But within 2 days, it too was empty. I noticed after putting it in that it showed full cartridge. It now shows empty. When I took it out I noticed a little ink on one of the bottom fins of the cartridge. When I took out all the others to try and swab out the ink, they all had a little magenta on the bottom corner of the cartridge. I took them all out as mentioned and mopped up quite a bit of magenta in the bottom of the compartment. The ink tubes do not look kinked. I don't want to spend money on a print cartridge unless someone at HP will tell me this is what the problem is.
This is my third Officejet. I have always thought the software was terrible but the hardware functioned well. It appears that may be an issue now. Why don't we see any "official" HP comments on this thread?
