PSC1350xi all-in-one won't print

Windows XP SP3 connected via usb to printer. Printer is installed using the install disc from HP

My scanner works just fine.

The printer "prints," but no ink on paper. The cartridge goes back and forth (zip, zip, zip) and sounds like something is printing, and the paper feeds in just fine, but nothing prints on the paper. It produces a blank sheet.

This printer sat around for about a year before I even took it out of the box. The printer never has worked.

I have the latest drivers from the HP website and I also downloaded the diagnostic tool. Diagnostic comes up "all good."

Could it be that the cartridges are just old and/or dried up?

Thanks in advance.

Russ

P.S. Oh, one other thing. When I click on the "HP Director," nothing happens. No window opens.

[ Edited ]

You might have tried some of these steps but do try them if you have not.

Print a self test page

1. From the front panel, press and hold Cancel

2.  Press Color Start . Release both buttons.

Did anything print out? or is it a blank page?

If it is a blank page try the documents linked below

Cleaning the Contacts

Cleaning the Area Around the Cartridge Nozzle Plate

Re: PSC1350xi all-in-one won't print

Self test page test results after pressing cancel/color: printer function actuates, i.e. draws paper in, carriage operates, sounds like it’s printing something, but produces a blank page.

Cleaned the cartridges following the links supplied.

Now light blinks: “Check print cartridge.” (It’s possible that I got too close and touched nozzle… not sure) and “E” (presumably for error) is displayed.

Now self test page will not operate.

But now HP Director opens where it didn’t before. Some progress!

P.S. Much to my chagrin, after retracing my steps, it just dawned on me that I cleaned the internal contacts on the machine with the power cord attached and power on. I probably just fried it. (sigh) “Print cartridge error is displayed.”

This is what happens when people don’t follow instructions.

Joy. At least the scanner still works.

Re: PSC1350xi all-in-one won't print

We might be able to isolate which cartridge is causing the issue. Remove the tri-color from the printer and leave the black cartridge in. Close the top cover and check the LED indicators on the printer for any problems. Reinstall the tri-color and then do the same process for the black. List out which LED indicator lit up each time one of the cartridges is out.

Re: PSC1350xi all-in-one won't print

Both.

With either cartridge removed and the door close, the "check print cartridge" flashes and the "E" is displayed.

Thanks.
