Printing via shared HP PSC 2410 (on OS X) from Windows XP gives garbled/empty output

I have recently replace my trusty Deskjet 970cxi for a HP PSC 2410 Photosmart printer. It is connected via USB onto my iMAC running Snow Leopard and working flawlessly. I am using the latest OS X drivers.

I have shared this printer to make it available via my home network, but when I try to print form a Windows XP client, the printer only spews out almost empty pages where the first one says "HP XL;0;3;0 Copyright Microsft Corporation" crap. The rest of the pages come out empty. This goes on for several pages after which I cancel the job.

Printing when I connect the printer directly with USB to my Windows XP client works OK

I also installed the latest HP 2410 driver on my Windows XP client. I connect to the printer using the "browse for printer" function in "Add Printer" (or connecting directly to the IP of my Mac which shows the printer being connected right away)

I also used a generic windows driver, but this doesn't work at all (logically I suppose, but I just thought I mention it)

Printing via my Mac on my old 970cxi printer worked without issues, so I suspect a driver issue. Based on the small line of printed text spewed out (the aformenetioned "HP XL;0;3;0 Copyright Microsft Corporation" stuff) I did some Googling and found some issues with the PCL 6 driver. Couldn't find an old driver for this printer to test.

Who has any clues?
