HP D5460 Photosmart CD/DVD printing feature on Windows 7 :(

I succesfuly installed drivers and software for my D5460 on Windows 7.

Everything is working really fine, except CD/DVD printing function. Usualy when I opened CD/DVD tray on my printer, HP software automaticaly started software for this feature, but now (since I got Win 7) nothing happens and i'm not able to run this programm manualy. So I cant do prints on CD's.

Maybe somebody has any ideas?

I presume you are talking about the lightscribe functionality. If so, go to Lightscribe.com and click on the "lightscribe toolbox" at the bottom of the screen. Click on downloads. Click on Windows. Yes, there is not software for Windows 7 yet, but the Vista software is working fine on both my HP touchsmart and tablet. You will first want to download and install the system software, then download and install the labeling software. The labeler is very simple and may not be what came with your computer. They do offer more extensive sofware there as well.

I think the OP was referring to direct CD\DVD label printing. You could download and install HP Photosmart Essential 3.5(free download from hp.com) and that should allow you to print on DVD's.

I have the same problem, I updated to windows 7, grabbed the new software / driver download for the Photosmart D5460 but when I try to print Direct to DVD I

 get a message saying : "The Selected Device, HP Photosmart D5400 series, is not recognized as a device that provides direct printing on CD or DVD discs. Please select a device that sapports printing on CD/DVD discs."

     Photosmart Essential 3.5 is already installed during the setup installation of the D5460. I have tryed uninstall and reinstall a few times nothing is working.

I called HP tech sapport to inform them on this problem but was told since my printer was out of warrenty it would cost me $35 for them to even listen.

  Hopfully we can get enough people with the same problem to get HP to look at the drivers and software for this series and get us a patch soon.

I have exactly the same problem with my printer software, the soft doesn't recognize the printer as a printer who could print directly on a CD/DVD!

I see they have a patch on the driver page for the Photosmart D5460. I downloaded and installed the patch but it doesn't fix the problem.

I have also tried that one, and I have had a long chat with HP support today also, tehy told me to install a Roxio CD/DVD print software witch was downloadable from the HP site, but it didn't work, it was for the 5160 and only for that one, so it didn't help. So it seems that at the moment were stuck. And i don't like that, the CD/DVD print was the sole reason for me to choose this perticular printer.

ps. u have to excuse me if my spelling isn't corect, I'm from Sweden so english ain't my naitive tounge, so to speak, so it may be som faults in here.

I read different forums and seen that some people use a 3rd party software like "SureThing CD Label" and the Roxio software. I downloaded SureThing CD Label and it says the same thing, "No device available with direct to cd/dvd printing capability detected.

 So it seems the problem is the drivers for this series.

I have also tried the Sure Thing software this evening, at first it didn't work, but then I installed the latest update, and with a lite fix in Sure Thing's printer settings I got it to work. It now runs smoothly and I'm very satisfied, that i fixed it myself!

Hey Thanks for the tip on the updating, I read your post and updated SureThing, and yes now I can print to cd/dvd, I still think HP should fix the problem with their drivers/software.
