Re: HP Laserjet Color 3600n Driver for Windows 7

That's concerning.  I'm also on W7 x64, and had managed to persuade the 3600n to run using the HP drivers copied across by sharing the printer from an XP machine (lucky I've still got one).  I've not applied SP1 yet, and now fear from your post that it's not going to be a very happy experience.  I'm still on Java Version 6 Update 20, so looks like some fun ahead there as well!

Re: HP Laserjet Color 3600n Driver for Windows 7

Now updated to Java Version 6 Update 24, and everything's still working fine.  Does that help pin your problem down to W7 SP1 ?

Re: HP Laserjet Color 3600n Driver for Windows 7

I've spend several hours trying to download the driver for my 3600 LaserJet.  I have made several phone calls, mostly recordings.  I finally called the sales department.  They answered go figure.  However they couldn't help me and gave me a number to call (on my dime) 1-650-857-1501.  I told them I wanted to speak to the owner of the company, but they said that wouldn't be possible because he was at home right now.  I replied he was probably enjoying  his big boat I helped pay for buying this now useless product.  It wasn't until I read this forum that I realized the printer wasn't supported on Windows 7.  You would think they would have put it on their website under the printer.

For years I have bought HP printers.  Never again.  What is it with these companies.  You support them and then after they get to a certain growth size, they lose their customer service.  I want to say hey what about us, we supported you all these years, but they just can't hear anymore.  They are so busy looking at their bottom line and trying to figure out who to buy next, they lose sight of what it was that gave it to them in the first place.  I've seen this over and over again in corporate structures.  A name used to mean something.  HP meant something to me.  It meant trust, but now it means betrayed.  I'm looking at the screen now and on the top left it says "HP Total Care"...but it is not true.

So what can I do?  I could create a you tube  video of me lining up my HP printers in the driveway and busting them up with a hammer, but it's not in my character.  If any of you have any ideas, please let me know.  I will be spreading the message everywhere I go "Just say no to HP". Also if you work in corporate america intentionally choose a network printer that's not HP even if you have to walk further to get it and be sure to tell everyone why you need to do this, but if you work in a hostile work envirnment where dictatorship is the name of the game anonymously send a paper to the HP printer which says "Just so no to HP".  If enough of us can come together, we can make a difference, but it's going to take one print job at a time.

Re: HP Laserjet Color 3600n Driver for Windows 7

I installed the printer under Windows 7 and it works perfect. Here is how I did it by selecting Windows Vista 64-bit as my operating system:

1. Go to (copy the whole link and paste it in your browser)
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=501045&p...

2. Download the driver as "HP Color LaserJet 3600 Host Based Driver" from the three options. It's a Zip (compressed) file) you can place anywhere in your HD named: HP_CLJ3600_64bit_HB.exe (14.4Mb). Save it (just in case) in your Desktop or Downloads folder and when finished, click on Run to run it. When prompted, click again in Run it and select the folder you want to uncompress the files (Default is C:/HP_CLJ3600_Driver) - You can Browse for a new location in your HD. When ready, click Unzip from the Window. When finished, close the window.

3. Use Windows Explorer to see the final uncompressed files (43) and verify the existence of the file hpc3600w.inf

4. From the Control Panel, look for Printers and Add a new one. Follow the prompts and select local/network connection. At the existing Port, select DOT4 (it won't work as LPT1). If you don't see right away, select the default LPT1. The DOT4 port will show up later (I don't know why - don't ask).

5. From the Install Printer Driver, select Have Disk and browse on your folder containing the .inf document.

6. Select the Printer (will be the one in the list, anyway) and click on Next. The printer is installed and ready to go. You can use the button to Print a Test Page.

If the procedure does not work, go to Properties and look for the DOT4 Port. That should do it.

Re: HP Laserjet Color 3600n Driver for Windows 7

you are a genius

I have wasted 5 hours trying to do this using instructions from HP site which are very vague and hard to follow

not sure why HP has not made this more straightforward and just relabelled the vista drivers for win 7 64 if this one works!

thanks

Re: HP Laserjet Color 3600n Driver for Windows 7

For all the network printer people, I was able to use the Vista 64-Bit driver if I set up the printer with a direct TCP/IP connection. This may be a no-brainer for some, but we use Novell iPrint where I work, so the printer was connected through this. It won't work through iPrint at all. But it will work as an IP only printer.

Thank you very much for your instructions.  I had spent quite some time trying to install that driver without success before I looked at your advice.

I have Win 7 Ultimate 32 bit.

When I went to the vista 64 bit .inf file, I received an error message, that said to get a 32 bit compatible driver.

would this work in windows 7 64 bit environment?

P.S. I've already tried the 32bit driver

Re: HP Laserjet Color 3600n Driver for Windows 7

royurrego, thanks so much. I tried for a year to get this resolved, and Ithink it was the DOT4 that made the different and

not sure I attempted the Vista 64 bit driver.

Lots of toner left and gonna use it all up.  :smileyhappy:
