Re: HP Laserjet Color 3600n Driver for Windows 7

I feel as if I've been ripped off also.  My printer 3600n, a little over a year old, is not working with Windows 7.  I've been on the phone with people from India to Pakistan.  Microsoft tried to help, but all they did was screw up the computer so now it won't boot.  I bought a new computer with a 64 bit operating system, and added 2gb of memory, thinking that this XP solution might work, but it does not.  I'm the owner of several Compaq products, and HP.  I've also got a few Dells in our workplace.  We can't make any of them work, even trying the network advice provided by someone here.  Now I'm going to have to go out and buy a new printer.  Only around 800.00 down the drain.  I'll also never, ever buy another Compaq or HP product again.

I think the least they could do is provide the "all about you" support, but that's turned out to be bull.

They aren't even trying to help us.  Not one bit.

Im sure they're not worried about it.  They couldn't care less about people that have already gotten stuck with their junk.  All they care about is they've got your money, there's plenty more dupes out there, but I'll let every business owner I know about this treatment.  Hopefully, the rest of you will do so as well.  Maybe we can bend their can a little, but I,m sure we won't put them out of business.  They'll just sell some more stock, and the big boys in the glass towers can keep on piling on the bucks and buying their yachts and vacation houses.  But they won't be doing it with my money any more.

Re: HP Laserjet Color 3600n Driver for Windows 7

As a frequent poster on this subject I have had postings with additional and in my opinion critical technical information bounced because I was critical of them and wished them ill will. One early post was simply censored, but the last with some really good stuff (which can't remember at this point) was bounced and lost nor did the bouncer respond to my query. My opinion is if you can't take the heat you shouldn't be in the business because you will be found out.

As to claims by mswlee to not given up on this printer, fine, you found your fix and none of the rest of us that have taken the time to read all 3600n post doubt that it works for you, but the rest of us find the solution unacceptable so please stop pushing people to waste their efforts when the problem is clearly HP's.

HP has consistently been a non responder to even officially recognize that a problem exists let alone make a commitment to fix it so I as others give HP a thumbsdown and recommend others to run (don't walk) to closest exit when it comes to HP printing solutions. If you would like a little humor, read posting 3 in this thread to see what I think of HP's Total Care logo.

So the earliest account of problems with the 3500n and W7 were early September of last year and by that time it was hard to even find a 3600n for sale as it had been with drawn. Mine was a few weeks over the year mark and I recall seeing adds for them several months later so still a fairly new printer and dropped like a rock in W7. It is now early May so that makes it 8+ months and counting that HP has been informed and a no show in this forum. How they could justify that is beyond me.

The support URL page has changed over time from not supported to working on it to use vista drivers and of course the way HP (and most companies) work these days there is no historical accounting so proof about something might be there one day and gone the next so much for proof after the fact and transparency. Even this forum sends you emails with links back to the forum for you to keep track of your post ... sound great until they bounce a post and you have no way to get to the post because its gone!

On an another note about and its claimed free email support, they basically push you to call in so they can charge you and I kept on refusing and insisting that they answer my very plain and simple questions and they would auto close the cases. That email trail was quite humorous and of course got no where ... why would I want to put good money into something that was obviously going no where as far as getting fixed. They kept telling me they don't have the information and I'd have to call in. Why would someone on the phone have and more or less info than an emailer ... gets me.

On yet another note, there is a paid email business support forum separate from this one where a somewhat similar discussion in going.

Eventually I heard directly from an HP IPG CR Color Midrange person that did not seem to be just some support person, but then again, maybe not. IPG is HP's Imaging and Printing Group and the email was in reference one of my email support cases and he claimed HP is working on it, had no dates and it would be a W7 specific driver (vs an update to Vista driver). That was 1/22/2010 so about 4+ months and counting. Realizing that I might have gotten to someone that might actually know something, I similarly asked back if there was some projection. He didn't respond. I just sent another request today (2nd in 4 months ... that can't be considered annoying, but reasonable). I'll post if I hear back, but I would count on it.

[ Edited ]

thebruiser / gary ... if you had read the complete forum you would know that we are well aware of the use of Vista drivers on W7 and that they only work in select circumstances. You news is not new and it only serves to confuse and mislead people. Please don't do that as it serves no one!

To others ... no I have not heard back from the HP IPG CR Color Midrange person that claimed HP is working on a W7 3600 driver.

HP you should be ashamed of not just your service, but your behavior.

Re: HP Laserjet Color 3600n Driver for Windows 7

Yes, I too purchased the HP 3600n,  which is a good printer for anything but windows 7.  I three months ago purchased a HP laptop with windows 7, and guess what, my printer is not supported.  HP, what would it really take to fix this problem?  I know it was Microsoft that caused the problem, but you (HP) need to keep up with technology and support your equipment with newer software, etc.

I like many of the posters agree on not purchasing from companies that do not support their products.  I too will insist that our organization which has several thousand printers also go to another brand.  Maybe Canon, as they appear to support windows 7 quite well.  From what I hear, they are doing their best to get windows 7 to work with all their printers. HP you should look at your competitors and see they are kicking your but in Customer service.

Use the Vista 64 bit driver.  It works just fine.  The link for this driver is posted above, and I will include here as well:

Re: HP Laserjet Color 3600n Driver for Windows 7

I have a 3600 with a network card.  I wasted a couple a couple of hours trying the

universal drivers - there are two of them, with no explanation as to the differences.  Neither worked.   After jumping through a lot of hoops, I noticed a statement buried in the middle of a very long page saying that the Vista local driver is the one they advise for Windows 7.  I  backtracked through several pages and downloaded that.  It's just a directory containing a bunch of drivers, so you have to add the printer from the control panel and use the "have disk" option.  It worked.

This is not very intuitive - To make a networked printer work under Windows 7, you install a local driver for Windows Vista.

As stated many times here, this is very shoddy support from HP.   Getting a recently-manufactured printer to work from a reputable supplier should take five minutes, not two hours.

Re: HP Laserjet Color 3600n Driver for Windows 7

I too have this same dilemma. I have owned a LaserJet 3600 for just over a year, brought a new HP laptop, and can’t print, because HP decided to not update the drive. I have an HP printer that’s eight years older and they support that printer—interesting.

Okay we’re to use the Vista version. Should we use the 64bit drive on a 32bit computer or the 32bit? Once it is downloaded, how is it loaded? I noticed it’s in a zip format that doesn’t seem to have an exe file. Assistance appreciated. Thanks!

Re: HP Laserjet Color 3600n Driver for Mac OS X 10.4.11

I am trying to download the driver for the HP LaserJet Color 3600n printer for my Mac.  I have the 10.4.11 version but can only find a driver for newer versions.  Does anyone know where I can download the driver I need?

Thanks
