Update to Vista Service Pack 2 before installing Windows 7?

I've just bought a HP DV7 with Vista Home Premium 64 bit Service Pack 1.  I know I should install the updates for windows, but I was wondering if it is important that I should install Service Pack 2 before installing Windows 7 when it is released in Oct.

Re: Update to Vista Service Pack 2 before installing Windows 7?

If you're intending to do an update then I think you need to have Vista SP2 installed first (you certainly did when I tried it on a laptop at work).

If you want to do a clean install, or dual boot, then there's no requirement to.

Thanks, I was intending to try install the upgrade without the sp2 update, but now I'll make sure to get that done before my Windows 7 gets here .

Re: Update to Vista Service Pack 2 before installing Windows 7?

Tried to install SP2, but the option is not listed in the updates.  I have run the all the HP updates, all Windows updates and everything comes back as products and drivers are up to date.  I've contacted Microsoft and all they can recommend at this point is to do a manual install which HP does not recommend.  If I do a manual install, and it creates problems, do you think they will be resolved when I install Windows 7?
