On the upgrade program for Windows 7, I bought my laptop on 7/14/2009 and have Vista Home Premium, and my model is HP Pavilion dv7-1464nr but when I click on to see if my model is eligible - it takes me to a "Forbidden" page. How can I find out if I am eligible for the free upgrade and if I am, where do I go from here to get it? Thanx!

I purchased a Pavilion dv4 during the proscribed period to get the free Windows 7 upgrade. I filed the paperwork and received the upgrade. I did the upgrade and all went well until this past week. Thank you HP for doing what you said you would do.
I slaved a hard drive to my system to clean off some viruses and spyware, my laptop's registry was corrupted. I thought - no big deal. I will just reload my system. I have all my file backed up and all my recovery disks including the upgrade. After all, I am an IT pro, and I do this daily for other people.
So I wiped the HP Pavilion and reinstalled Vista. When I finished upgrading to Windows 7, I was asked for a product key. I do not believe that happened when I first installed they upgrade. I believe that was handled by what they call an upgrade manager disk. In addition, the Vista key on the bottom of the laptop is now unreadable.
I called HP technical support and was told that the upgrade was only for a single use upgrade. I explained that I understood MS licensing, and this is the same "single" upgrade - same PC, same hard drive, same CPU... Just a reload.
I was told I have to purchase a copy of Windows 7 upgrade - because the DVD I was given by HP can only be used once - period. (PS I was also told to speak with MS - which of course referred me back to HP.)
Either:
1) The HP technician does not know what he is talking about.
2) The free upgrade was not properly represented by HP, and sounds like a great case for a class action suit...
I chose to believe the HP technician is just another of the overseas, give me your credit card number people.
HP - Can you help this loyal customer out with this problem. I paid for a HP laptop with Vista with a free upgrade to Windows 7. Surely I do not have spend another $100 to reload my PC?
Please advise by email or phone call. Your overseas technician (spoke with 2 different people), said they could not have a manager call me on Monday!!!
You really need to consider bring your tech support back on shore. I would be interested in working for you :-)

Now that Windows XP has only 14 months life left, we are embarking on a program of upgrading all our HP Vista Business PC's to Windows 7. These PC's are currently running Windows XP as we downgraded (?) then from Vista using the HP downgrade CD's.
HP & Microsoft has offered free upgrades from Windows Vista Business to Windows 7 Professional, but I cant seem to find any UK links to qualifying products or to the details of the scheme.
Can anyone help and/or advise please?
Tim
