My problem with this type of sales strategy is that " if the program ended Jan 1, 2010 why is the "Free Upgrade" notice still in my I7 920 package that I just purchased for $1900 yesterday (Mon. Apr 5, 2010) If you offer a deal like this then it should be available until HP products are all Win7 or the Vista owners have upgraded. And REMOVE THE NOTICES from the new purchase boxes. I do not like Vista, and prefer Windows 7 especially since this machine was bought for my son who has Cerebral Palsy. The last thing he needs to contend with is Vista, which I feel Microsoft was testing environment gone wrong..

I bought my HP Pavillion dv4-1430us laptop PC from Office Depot and I was told that all I had to do was go to the office depot website to download the Win 7 upgrade. I was told by the salesman at Office Depot that the download would take quite awhile and it was difficult. Therefore, I waited a few months until I had enough time to devote to this task. No one told me that there was a deadline or that I had to submit paperwork for the upgrade. I was only given a little piece of paper with a website on it. I went to this site March 21st and was very shocked to see that this offer had ended. That day I sent an email to Arvato, and received what seemed like an auto-generated email since it stated that they wanted to thank me for being a Toshiba customer when I had clearly stated that I had an HP computer.
Is there anyway that I can participate in this offer, as I was told incorrect information by the place of purchase?
Thanks!

what about us idiots that bought a new computer with windows 7 factory installed?
You don't care about us, you just want to sell another printer. I'm buying one tomorrow, and it won't be an HP or a Compaq, either. I've been an HP customer since I bought my first HP 12C calculator back in the seventies. Isn't it a shame that your company has gone so far downhill as to disappoint customers that have spent thousands of dollars on YOUR products.
Like I said before, burn me once, shame on you, burn me twice, shame on me. HP is history for my company. I'll put my old 12C in the shelf and buy a TI before I'll use it again. Maybe I can find a sap to buy all of my HP junk.

With you on this and in the same boat. Where did the deadlines come from? Nobody told me when the sale was made. It wasn't in the box. This isn't exactly "bait and switch" but maybe more like "hook, line and sinker." Had a lady once show me a hundred dollar bill and ask for change. I got five twenties from the register and was about to take her bill when I noticed it had turned into a ten! When I called the manager, the lady insisted it was my mistake. Sound familiar?

guess i'm an idiot for trusting HP. Bought a laptop, got word of the windows 7 upgrade, sent away for the disks. Did not immediately do the upgrade. Well just went through the upgrade, got to a part looking for product key, well the disks didn't come with any product key. Called support was told nothing could be done as the program is over. Makes no sense to me, if you buy milk and eggs from the store do you go to a website to find out when they expire? NO of course not. If you are going to end a program you need to fully notify all the customers, better would've been a note in the package of worthless disks that were sent.
So the outcome of my experience was that I lost everything on my hard drive as the tech support person had me wipe out and recover my laptop so i can start again. This was before I even knew I there were suppose to be prod keys sent with the disks. Good thing i backed everything up. Worthless company, don't provide the correct upgrading materials, don't tell everyone correctly that a program ends, and do not help your customer base when an issue happens. Oh and blame the customer for not immediately upgrading when not informs them there is a window to do so!!! Nice JOB HP!!!! That's why your stock is only $33, instead of higher, cuz you don't provide customer sat. Never buy the product again and wont buy their stock!!
Now I have to rebuild my laptop with all that I had on it and i'll just stay on Vista. Thank for nothing HP

AtaUtku, It is to late to get the free upgrade. To purchase an upgrade you would have to go to a store that sells computer software. Depending on what country you are in and what version of windows you have you may be able to order it online.

Hi, You probably a used computer which someone has installed Windows & on it. Most of the DV6 models came with Vista installed on them. If the person you bought it from did not give you the registration key number with the computer they probably installed the original Windows & on another computer. If you look on the computer it should have a tag on it stating which windows version it came with it. It will also Have a 25 digit activation number on it. If it does say windows & then you register it online but if you are unable to find this tag you may need to purchase a new operating system software with which you will receive a activation code. If you have the disk the operating system on it either Vista or Win 7 and the activation key you may repair Win 7. If it is windows Vista disk you may have to reformat the hard drive and install the operating system that you have the key for. Warning if you do a Format of the hard drive you will loose all the other programs permanently!!! most computers made recently come with the original software installed on the hard drive, if this is your case, I don't know to help you with this. But if you have the original disks you may be able to reinstall them. Also most of the disks that contain software , such MS Office will need activation codes. There fore it will not do you any good to reinstall them. When you buy a computer on the Internet as you did They my claim to have an HP store front, but not be associated with the Official HP\Compaq themselves. Judging that you made payment to Raymond McKown leads me to believe you bought it used from an Individual because if you bought it from a retailer you would have made payment method out to retailer, such as Best Buy or Directly to HP. I do not know which country you live in. I know that Microsoft has different type of software structure that aer country specific. Meaning that if you live for example in Mexico it would be different software. I hope this does not confuse you, when you buy on the internet buyer beware if buying from a source and payment is made to an individual name that it may not be legit.
