Re: Upgrade Program for Window 7

eClaire60, that isn't always true about the product number ending in #ABA (or-ABA) or any extra four characters.  I have just purchased a HP HDX 18t customizabale notebook with a product number of NK148AV and that is the entire prodcut number.  That is what is says on the label on the bottom of my notebook and also in the system information, which you can get to by going under start/programs/hp/system information.

I ordered this notebook online from Hp store on June 27 2009, with a build date of July7th and ship date of July 8th and paid for two business day shipping, but the HP windows 7 upgrade option page says my product number is invalid and I know it is not.  I called Hp about and they tell me my product number isn't invalid and should work, but it won't. Why is this?

Re: Upgrade Program for Window 7

I have been trying to place the Order for the last four days without any success.  I keep getting "There was a problem with your credit card. Please review your info." message even though my credit card information is correct.  I was asked to contact my credit card bank.  The bank verified that they were receiving requests and were approving it and there was no problem with my credit card.  HP vendor's customer service then said that their system was going through some updates and asked me to try next day.  Same results next day.  I was told a Supervisor will get back to me.  That did not happen.  Finally they told me that they would forward the details of my effort to their web support and they will get back to me in 5 business days.  It has been 2 days now and I am counting.  I have wasted 2 hours of my time re-inputting all the details over and over again and convincing them that the problem is with website and not my credit card information or credit limit.  It has been a very frustrating experience.

I am having the same problem.  All my product number is NB444AV with no #XXX after it.

Is this just a glitch in the order form?  (I hope!)

Re: Upgrade Program for Window 7

What happens if you type -ABA after the Product number and submit it anyways?

I'll try it.  I wasn't sure if it'd be okay since I have no idea what #ABA or #ABC meant and if it'd have any effect on identifying my PC

ETA: Well, still doesn't work and I tried all three of those extensions.

Re: Upgrade Program for Window 7

Hey Dexter,

I have tried as well and it doesn't work, nothing seems to work.  I did contact them through e-mail and they are escalating this problem to their web people to fix it and they had me send proof of purchase, so I hope this gets resolved or I will probably send my computer back.  This is ridiculous and shouldn't happen at all.

Re: Upgrade Program for Window 7

All I can say is that if you bought the PC after the eligibility date, and if your PC has the required OS(basically meet all the basic requirements), then HP WILL ship you a Windows 7 Upgrade CD. There's still time for October 22nd to come, so I'm sure HP will get that website glitch fixed by then. Bottom line is, if your PC is eligible, then you WILL get the Upgrade.

Re: Upgrade Program for Window 7

Hi, Tomasello - what product do you have? If you could provide this to me, I will help. It's easy to do: if Desktop PC, do a CTRL + ALT + S. If it is a Notebook, look underneath at the Service Tag sticker. Product # usually ends with an #ABA,

-ABA or "AV".

Re: Upgrade Program for Window 7

Hi, zacheklund - You are correct.  HP realizes the June 25th release of its Windows 7 Upgrade press release may have caused confusion about the actual start date of Purchase Eligibility. If you purchased a new PC on June 25th because of the HP press release, you likely* qualify for a Windows 7 Upgrade kit.

* The purchase date is only one of three qualifications for the Windows 7 Upgrade Option Program from HP. Other requirements are a new HP PC--some older refurbished PCs and PCs initially sold in retail or online before September 2008 may still be on retailer shelves, but are not eligible. Plus, Windows XP and Vista Home Basic PCs are not eligible operatings systems for this Upgrade Program. In all, however, we expect these exceptions to be small in number.

Contact Arvato (HP's Windows 7 Upgrade provider) if you believe your PC qualifies and you made a PC purchase on June 25th. Mention that your purchase was based on information in the HP press release.
