Re: Windows 7 Beta Install?

Well, I am thrilled meerupps is so happy.

But he didn't provide much help to the rest of us.

Re: Windows 7 Beta Install?

[ Edited ]

You know? I am amazed. Most in these Forums are Great.

But some? Please read some of my posts. When I had problems?

2 - 3 WEEKS would go by, and I would get nothing. No replies at all.

Not even any, "Sorry, but we don't know..."

So, when I go out and BLEED trying to piece by piece get the bugs out of MY

Touchsmart IQ816? THEN people run over to say, "Why won't he help us?"

Answer? I would if I could. Since my last post, my hard drive bricked. NOT because

of anything I did mind you, the drive was faulty. I couldn't even get to the BIOS.

Nor could I insert RECOVERY DISKS. It came back from HP with a new drive,

and UPDATED BIOS. So I went through the hoops again - ALONE.

Don't you think that if you tried to emulate what I have done with my IQ816

that you just may have MORE PROBLEMS?

That was what I got when I asked for help.

Windows 7? AWESOME. Built for Touchscreen PC's and I am happy I got it working.

I also like my Matrox TRIPLEHEAD2GO Digital Edition which adds 3 MORE Flat panels

to my setup, yes I gave that info, but you will still have to buy your own...

And at your own risk, I have no idea if it will work with other touchscreens.

I also posted that you should try to address your issues one at a time.

And I would take more time to help others if I didn't have 2 Handicapped kids here.

Maybe even if one of my questions were answered when I had problems.

These Forums are good for guidelines only. REALLY Great. But we each have our own

individual problems to address...

I will likely get flamed for posting this, but in all seriousness, if I posted what I have done to make

my Touchsmart work? Someone else would try, and likely BRICK their system.

And blame me.

WOW !  Looks like I hit a nerve !:smileysurprised:

While I would never impune all the issues and responsibilities you cite, you still found time to search out and fix all the problems as you proclaimed.

Interesting you felt the need to cite all these issues (In bold print) as reasons not to avail your experience to assist others.

I wrongly thought these forums could be used to assist each other in solving issues.

Re: Windows 7 Beta Install?

Yes. I put them in bold when I needed help too - you notice that everyone else here understands that

my problems aren't the same as anyone elses? No, I guess you don't. I noticed one more thing...

My system runs perfect. You still have problems.

Now it looks like I hit a nerve.

Hee hee.

I thought that was the whole point of the forum?  Assistance with issues.

To Mod: WendyM.... I don't think I was disrespectful, however, don't worry, I won't be posting here again.

No real help here, just a few individuals who are gifted enough to be assistance but aren't interested in doing so... It's a shame !

Re: Windows 7 Beta Install?

Back to the topic of Beta 7 stuff.

For those who have went through the Win7 upgrade (any PC) and have lost their CD/DVD drive. I got my drive back by going in and deleting the Lower Control Filter registry value from HKEYLocalMachine/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control/Class/{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Make sure you get the exact value in the exact key.

Also the default value within the key should read "DVD/CD-ROM drives". Mine was corrupted and may also have had something to do with it.

Drive works great now.

Re: Windows 7 Beta Install?

Hi

I installed the beta Windows 7 and found it MUCH better than Vista however I can't get the microphone to work. On each access (via MSN or 'set up microphone') it flashes the 'meter'but then hears nothing. Device manager says the devices are all  working properly. I went through the HP recommended ts routine to no avail. Can anyone give me a hint? I'd much rather use this than vista.

Many thanks

I had the same problem with mine, ( Windows 7 x64 RTM ) try download the vista drivers from HP downloads for your PC and install it - thats how i got mine working.  You'll need to use winrar to extract the exe file, then run the setup.exe from the src directory... You'll also need to download graphics drivers, keyboard drivers and your home and hosed!!!
