It installs just fine with MS Virtual PC 2007 using the Vista defaults. You wont experience any of the graphical features when installing under VM, that includes the multi touch.
I have it runningin VM on my 504 along with server 2008 bith installed without any issues.

Sivam,
Any devices that are not working should be very obvious, with little exclamation points next to them. I think my wireless was under "Unknown Devices" before I updated the driver. I forget what it was called, but it was obvious. After I updated the drivers it was under Network Adapters as "802.11n Wireless LAN Card".
That's the message you get from the HP installers. You will not be able to trick them into running. You have to do the WinRAR thing to get the raw driver files. The bcdedit trick is not necessary to get the network drivers running. That's just for the nextwin multitouch drivers.

window 7 beta
i have had it for a week for now
and its a old drive from my older computer and placed it on
one of my good computer not the newest one i have yet
and i have 2 hard drives on that computer
for the most part some of the vista drivers work
but except the samsung printer clp 300 did not
i used the older OS drivers and it worked
so some may work on xp drivers
by the way folks
this 40g hard drive that i have w7 beta on it
it is faster than my XP even though the computer
is not new and it is a445w as of now it is 5 years old
date from the manufacture
the orginal hard drive is a 120 i think and not toched
i did the beta install without having the orginal hard drive in
the reason i did that so it will not install any thing on it
until i get all the setup done on the smaller hard drive
and i reconnect the original hard drive and far as can tell
no problems at all
i had to reinstall it the second time but i corrected the issue
becuase the wireless ethernet usb will not work but i unplug it and
and this usb wireless reciever work for older OSes
vista and W7 beta does not seems to work
good points or advice..
Aslo if the questions or issues solved please check it

Thanks and you are welcome _____ Rick

I own the Touchsmart IQ816 and finally EVERYTHING works.
YES. With Windows 7 Ultimate Beta. Even the TOUCHSMART Software that is known for having issues, now works.
I was amazed at how my questions appeared to have been ignored for the most part, only to find out that while the answers are there,
they are just simply hard to find. Everything is dependant on what you have.
Both my INTERNAL BLU-RAY Drive, AND an older external DVD writer are seen in Windows 7 WITHOUT having a disk in too,
someone mentioned that this isn't possible with Windows 7. Mine works fine. Several Updates since going with Win 7 too.
It appears that BOTH Microsoft AND HP are working to make us all Happy.
I have Windows 7 Ultimate on. No Problems. No Errors.
Device Manager has no exclamation points, etc, all in all? Finally Perfect.
Thanks to all that tried to help out, but with everybody having different issues, it seems the best source is simply searching for yourself.
Whatever your issues are with Windows 7? Do a search for that problem. 1 at a time, and things will likely work out.
Another misconception with Windows 7? My IQ816 came out of the box with a Windows index score of 5.0
After installing the Win 7 Beta it fell to 2.0, and after some updates? A mere 3.0
After much searching the web, and some downright tweaking?
My Score now is a PERFECT 7.9 out of a possible 7.9
This rig Screams now.

I managed to install Windows 7 via a dual boot partition. It was relatively easy. A couple of drivers needed to be fixed but the majority seemed to be fine. I pointed the driver installers to the original Vista drivers directory and that seemed to work for the ones that the Windows installer didn’t not recognise.
I had to install the wireless LAN adaptor using the HP installer. I also did this for the sound drivers. Besides these ones, the Windows installer or fixing it by pointing to the original Vista drivers directory fixed the issues.
I have a couple minor issues. Firstly the graphics driver is a flakely and crashes every so often. Windows recovers but I have to reset brightness settings. Also, for some reason no network works after resuming from hibernation. I have tried to update the LAN and wireless drivers but the system tells me they are up to date. I would be open to suggestions on how to fix this.
Also, would be interested in understanding how to get the HP Touch software working on a clean install.
Besides the minor problems, Windows 7 seems pretty good.
Cheers.

Just curious, Has anyone has encountered a problem with the HP TouchSmart software in Win 7 Beta?
If so, can you please post the problem that occurred and the fix (if known)?
I have an IQ816 - but I installed Win7 on a desktop PC. I'm very curious as to what the experience is like for the TouchSmart and at the same time, we can help each other out in the community.
Thank you!
Please post rather than send me a Message. It's good for the community and I might not be able to get back quickly. - Thank you.

Ok. Very hard to do. As many here can see, or have read, I too have an IQ816 and when I wenty through my "Nightmare" with Windows Vista Ultimate, then Windows 7 Beta, not only was help hard to find, it was non-existant. I am NOT saying this in a negative way, it is just that there are so many configurations out there - One man's fix may be anothers Blue Screen of Death...help is as hard to give as it is to receive. But I will try...
Ok. For NEW Touchsmart owners - HP Touchsmart recommends Vista Home Premium for a reason.
For those who want the "Best" and upgrade to Vista Ultimate? Remember this - Your recovery partitition is overwritten by Ultimates.
No more Touchsmart or any HP Software back up. You will be ordering recovery discs straight away.
I did both. The upgrade to Ultimate, and sadly the restore disc ordering to bring me back to Factory spec.
OK. I hear at CES that the NEW Windows, Windows 7 Beta is "Tailor Made" for touchscreen PC's!
Bold statement. And TRUE.
I did the risky thing of upgrading to Windows 7. And guess what? My HP Recovery Partition not only stayed intact, but the install of Windows 7 Beta MODIFIED MY EXISTING FILES to work in Windows 7. You know the on screen keyboard you can use with your touchsmart? Now it is a FULLY Shaded BIG SIZE Keyboard specifically to make touching easier. Yes there were some bugs, but after searching out each and every little problem?
My out of the box Windows Experience Index was 5.0 (That is on my IQ816 Touchsmart)
Vista Ultimate is out because it wiped out my HP Touchsmart Software.
Now when I installed Windows 7? My Index dropped to 2.0
With some Tweaking and a Patch found after searching when I could find no help anywhere? I went to 3.0
Then I went and really dug. I looked everywhere, I have added different Software, such as a Defrag Alternative, Norton 2009, and other Tweaking Softwares that I can now say happily my index score is 7.9
7.9 you say? I thought it only went to 5.0?
Old School. Windows 7 raises the Bar. The Nice round number 7.9 is the new max. Install yourself, the new index goes to 7.9
And that is my score now. I suffered a lot through this, I got my rig sometime in November when they were released.
And now I am elatedly Happy. Running Windows 7 Beta with the Highest rating I can get.
Can I list every single Tweak? No. I am constantly Tweaking Daily. My suggestion to any having a problem?
Write each problem down. Then find a fix one at a time. When th 1st problem is fixed? Go to the second, THEN? When you fix the second problem go back and make sure that the second problem's fix didn't bring the 1st problem back.
And so on, etc...
While these Forums are helpful for most, these Touchsmarts are a pretty new breed. And it appears that Microsoft is making moves in the right direction with Hewlett Packard to make us all happy in the long run.
Do I recommend upgrading to Windows 7 Beta?
Believe it or not?
I DO.
If you can get past, and or fix Bugs that are going to be Naturally in Beta Software (That is why it is Beta)
My IQ816 SCREAMS with Windows 7.
Likely this won't seem too helpful, but if you really work it, you can have a screaming rig.
