To the person who wanted a link to HP. 

I know less than you do about computers and printers.  The information I provided about obtaining a free driver for the HP 2840 is all I have,  Just follow the information provided. Just go to the HP Store.  You are not alone.  Other printers are having similar problems.  Just check other chats.

Further to my last post and in fairness to Peter Piper 7, Costco and HP, the drivers are available, but it is the Windows 7 compatible software that we are after that enables full use of the printer capabilities, including fax and scan, that were previously available with the Windows XP software.

All I can do is try to resolve our respective problem. Call HP Sales.  I would guess that they would be willing to work it out with you.  They have admitted that they have a problem with HP 2840.  Reading other chats, there are other HP products that can not interface with Windows 7.  What a mess!

In answer to the writer advising that I was misinformed.  I could go around circles on this but I won't.  HP never advised me otherwise. I'm only trying to help here.  I suspect that there are hundreds of people with this problem.  HP Sales or Product Sales should help you with your problem. They should know your concerns. It is difficult for me to believe that they have stonewalled everyone for more than a year.  Perhaps they are waiting for your warranty to run out. 

 I could not wait for HP.  I already lost a client because of this.  There are plenty of refurbished XP computers out there.  I bought  an IBM Lenova desk top for a little more than a couple of hundred dollars.  It is a $2,000 plus machine. Boy! Is it fast!  Am I happy!  I'm told that Amazon has them as well.

HP advised me that their store had a driver available to all HP2840 owners, at no cost, which will merge Windows 7 and HP 2840.  I was later informed by a chat member that this is not the case.  I gave up on HP long ago.  I purchased an IBM XP through Overstock.com for a little over $200.00.  I'm happy as can be.

Until HP does provide a driver for HP 2840, your trying to make Windows 7 work is a waste of time.  There are a lot of very talented people, including your self, on this chat line.  Read some other HP chat lines who have other printers.  They have the same problem.  Frankly, this has been going on more than a year.  HP has not seen fit to come to your rescue.  They should have. A lot of good energy, knowledge and patients has been devoted to solving this problem.  You will never be happy with your solution or other similar solutions. There are hundreds of you out there with this problem.  You'd think that HP from a Public Relations point of view, would have answered the call for help long ago.  I have a friend who is a programer for HP.  He told me to give it up.  I did!   NO MORE HP
