Re: Windows 7 - HP Color Laser 2840 - Driver Problem

Tech support reported to me a month or so ago that they now have a driver for the 2840.  That would solve the problem with Windows 7.  However, to insure that I could make my 2840 printer compatible with my computer, I went to a resale location and purchased a  refurbished IBM XP and a new monitor for under $500.00.  I'm as happy as a clam.  What is better yet, all of my programs work.

Assuming the driver does not work to your satisfaction,  you my go my route and quit wasting your time trying  to make Windows 7 work with your 2840.

Re: Windows 7 - HP Color Laser 2840 - Driver Problem

For those who are unable to get their 2840 to print even by connecting their Windows 7 [worst OS ever] to it with their USB, here is the solution I have stumbled upon after hours:

In the PC's Devices and Printers, right click the HP printer icon.

Click on Printer Properties [about halfway down; this is separate from "Properties" at bottom of list].

Click Ports.

Uncheck your Standard TCP/IP Port.

Check DOT4 port.

Then click Configure Port

Click Apply if that option lights up

Click OK, and close out.

Reboot your PC.  Go back into Devices and Printers; your 2840 should no longer show status as "Offline", and should print while it is connected via USB.

What a nightmare.  Disgusted with HP for not providing a driver.  So appreciative of everybody's posts above; have tried all but nothing worked.  For those similarly situated, hope this helps.

Re: Windows 7 - HP Color Laser 2840 - Driver Problem

Dear Driver Problem,

I am not affiliated with HP.  I had the same problem.  I would like to think that I forced HP to provide drivers for our 2840s. I didn't have time to mess around with the problem so my solution was to return the Windows 7 computer and find a refurbished XP, which I did.  I'm happy.

Now as for the message which advises that your printing is "Too Complex," there are two things you can do:

1. Try turning your printer off and wait for a couple of minutes and restart the printer.

2. Assuming No. 1 doesn't work, then go to your printer window where it provides various menus.  Right below it "Enter" and right below that is the check mark which locks in the program.  Just push the check mark.  In most cases that will solve your problem.  I get those messages all the time -- once a month or so.  It has something to do with the number of copies you want, (print)  5-9. That causes the printer to go crazy and you get the message.  Somewhere in the past, the electricity was turned off or you experienced a multiplicity of rapid turn offs or turn ons --say during an electrical storm or something like that which corrupted the printer's program. The only real way to solve the problem is call HP and ask them to help you sort the problem out.  They will want to charge you for the time.  That is another problem -- you'd think that they would be interested in working with you from a PR point of view.  They are not very friendly.

Now, for the others who picked up the new drivers from HP, the driver should enable you to scan, and do all of the other things the printer is expected to do.  Call HP directly (they shouldn't charge for this call). The driver should still be under  warrantee. Ask them to work with you on the problem.

I will never buy HP again. I love the equipment; but seriosuly, you can't update a driver? This is my second laserjet that will not fully function on windows 7. At least make the software opensource so somebody could do what you {Content Removed} will not do.

HP, never again.

I had the impression that HP had available a driver which would make the Windows 7  compatible with your 2840.  I was assured by HP that the driver is a full spectrum driver -- that you could FAX and scan.  Now I see that this is not the case.  {Content Removed: no legal discussion permitted}  What they need are people who have similar complaints.

Your other option is to return your Windows 7.  In California, you have 90 days to return the computer.  Other state may have different laws.

 Good luck!,

Join the conversation!   Says the banner....  OK....

I buy a printer for $800, a decidedly good printer which is really the irony....

And you can't get off your {Content Removed: Language Filter Evasion} to give me drivers and software 3 years into the next windows operating system sold standard on every new PC by every manufacturer????  {Content Removed}

Your social media experts want us to join the conversation?  Here's some conversation.  {Content Removed}  I vow to never buy an HP product ever again.  I go out of my way to tell this user story to make sure nobody else I know ever buys an HP product ever again.  Hows that for conversation?

Dear Never Again,

I have noticed your messages in the past.  I'm with you.  HP has not served it's clients well.  These drivers are not expensive.  HP could have furnished a compatible driver to everyone who had a problem.  Instead they stonewalled and would not help their clients.  They even went so far as misrepresent the facts.  I would have liked to have read the removed material.  It must have been classic.

Best regards,

Re: Windows 7 - HP Color Laser 2840 - Driver Problem

Peter

What amazed me most, was that HP Support sent me a letter and Tax Invoice dated 29 October 2010 [Ref 311 1003 56789] for HP Next Day and HW Support for the Suppot Duration Staring 30/11/2010 and Ending 29/11/2011 for $633.60.

I'm glad I didn't waste that money for a product HP clearly decided to no longer support!

Re: Windows 7 - HP Color Laser 2840 - Driver Problem

You'd think HP might show some compassion or concern following these posts. These were not cheap Multi Purpose Devices! Nothing but silence! Is it any wonder parts of the retail sector has problems! Customer service is not what it should be!

Here's an idea HP. Call or email subscribers or post a message advising why this product is no longer supported despite your attempts to get owners of equipment to pay for support you decided not to provide!

Yours in disbelief!

Ed,

I agree with you.  It is incredible that HP is not customer service oriented.
