Re: Windows 7 Laserjet 4M driver

Bob:

I have the same problem that was stated by lconer1. I would like to use flash media to download the 4m driver at a public library internet connection and then transfer the driver from the flash media to my win7 desktop computer which does not have an internet connection.

I have tried for serveral hours at the local library to find the win7 HP 4m driver using the link to the microsoft download site that you provided, but was unable to locate the driver. I do not feel the Microsoft site is at all "user friendly" with regard to finding/downloading specific HP drivers, specifically one for the HP 4m. They will offer to scan my computer, but of course my computer is not there at the library to be scanned on-line. Maybe I am missing something, but it seems Microsoft is not providing the 4m driver for a computer which is not on-line and available to be scanned.

Do you possibly have a direct link for downloading an HP 4m+ driver from the Microsoft site that will work with Win7?   Or can you provide some directions as to how to navigate the Microsoft download site (link that you provided above) for the purpose of downloading the 4m driver to flash media?

Please use plain text.

Bob said "Users with no internet connection will not be able to download drivers from HP any more easily than from Microsoft."

Actually, this is not true Bob. I do not have an internet connection for my Win7 platform. However, I can take USB flash media to a public location for downloading drivers ... and then install to my Win7 platform from the flash media.

Would be nice if HP had not bailed out on providing drivers. As I previously stated ... I feel HP has dropped the support ball.

OK, I am done with this thread.  HP wrote the driver and worked with Microsoft to distribute it automatically through Windows Update.  This is easier, but only for the 99.999% of folks that have an internet connection on their machine.  For the other 0.001% the drivers are still available through the Catalog Update site.

The Apollo P-1200 worked for me as well.  Could not find the 4M listed in the Windows update.

The Laserjet 4M is listed under HP (not Hewlett-Packard) as shown here:

There are 3 versions of the 4M+ driver available for Windows 7 x86 (the 32 bit version).  You can click here, then select "Add" to the last three items (the ones that list only Windows 7 and are 11.4Mb in size), then in the upper right look for the "view basket" link and click it, then click download in the upper right.  It will ask for a directory, select the appropriate place on your flash drive.

Thank you very much Bob. Your instruction worked perfect!! I have the needed  win7 x32 -  4m+ print drivers downloaded to flash media.

Note: The MS site did not like the Firefox browser that I normally use. I had to switch to using MS IE browser (>/= v6.0) (with a direct-x plugin that was prompted by the IE browser at the link you provided) before any info you described was displayed. But once the brower was set up and working, your instruction worked flawlessly.

Thank you so much again - Celia

Re: Windows 7 color laserjet 3600n driver

I have a new computer (w/ windows 7 64 bit)  I am trying to connect my color laserjet 3600n printer, but I have 1 of several messages blocking my success.

When I use my printer driver disc, I get a message that says that Microsoft Explorer version is older than 5, and that isn't the case, I have version 8.

When I try to download online, the computer doesn't recognize my printer as existing.

when I download the Vista driver, as one of the instructions informed me to do, I get the similar reaction that the system isn't recognized.  I am beginning to believe that there is no driver for my printer that will work.

I am jumping in on this thread because it seems others have had problems with "7" and compatible printers.

Any advise?

Yeah Bob, that "Windows Update" thing is a nice fairy tale, but that doesn't work on Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. I've done it 3 times and it's nowhere. Besides that, the standalone versions do not work in 64 bit. Try again, please.

Re: Windows 7 Laserjet 4M driver

From your post, Bob, "Users running Windows 7 who have a slow internet connection will have issues with this model."

I think this is the issue I have hit. I'm trying to install a Laserjet 4 via a USB-Parallel connection, onto a Win7 64 bit Gateway PC. The cable installs. I choose the USB001 virtual port, and click on Windows Update. Tne next screen is greyed out, but it says it's updating. Nothing happens for over 20/30 minutes, but my clients are on a slow Cavtel connection. Could this be the issue? Is there another way to get these drivers? I have to get this fixed for my clients. Should I kick it off and come back next day?

I'm following this line of thought because the other thing that failed completely was the Win7 Advisor. That never reported back, and it makes sense that you'd need a good Internet connection for that, too.
