Windows 7 and Recovery Partition/Discs

I have never dealt with a recovery partition until I bought my HP laptop.  If I upgrade to Windows 7 and then have to use my Vista recovery partition/discs, how would that work?  Would I have to recover to Vista, then reinstall the upgrade again?  Thanks!

Re: Windows 7 and Recovery Partition/Discs

If you install the Windows 7 release candidate let it install only to the C partition. Leave the D: (Recovery partition) as it is. That way you will still have the HP recovery partition. You should be be able to reinstall your OEM Vista OS from the Vista recovery partition/discs if there is a serious issue.  If you are referring to the Win 7 RTM (Release to Manufacture), as in when it hits the stores for sale, the same applies.

I guess the RTM is what I am talking about (I would preorder from a store).  Dual boot isn't what I was looking for.  I just wanted to make sure what I would do in case I upgraded then for some reason would need to use the recovery partition.  My concetn was that it would mess up the drivers, etc.  I still haven't decided 100% if I want to spend the money on the upgrade or not.  I have only used Vista since around March, and so far am pleased with it, but I do understand that 7 is supposed to be more stable, etc.
