Wireless Setup - HP Deskjet 6840 - Windows 7 RTM

I have Windows 7 RTM and needless to say, the vista drivers were no use for this printer so the install disk is out of the question. I finally just plugged the printer into the computer and Windows 7 magically found the correct drivers for the printer. It just installed the HP Deskjet 6800 series drivers so there was no extra software for the wireless set up. Apparently it only works wirelessly on XP?

Can anyone help me set up my printer wirelessly using the wireless built into the printer without having to purchase anything else? Do they make updated wireless software for windows 7?

OK so what i did was.

1 Connect via usb.

2 Let Windows install the printer

3 Configure printer for wireless via usb connect see documentation or via Ethernet cord  (check router for device local IP then use your browser to configure the printer)

4 Power down printer disconnect all wires for wireless mode, power up and wait tell it connects to the router (status indicator on front panel of printer)

5 Go to device/printers and click add printer then bottom option (add a network wireless bluetooth printer)

6 Wait tell it finds the printer select it and click next follow through the install.

After you have added the wireless printer you may delete the offline usb printer from the device and printers section that we had to install at first.

Hi,

I have a 6800 series.  Moved to a new Windows 7 laptop.  Printer is setup for wireless with my old XP laptop, but I cannot get my new Windows 7 laptop going.  The original CD failed to run.  I followed above instructions, but get stuck where it says delete the USB printer driver.  If you delete that, there are no drivers left?  Nothing works.  Help!

All sorted.  Just add a network printer with IP address 10.1.1.3.  Finds it, communicates with it, installs it.  Done!  It's all about networking!

Trying to reconnect my Deskjet 6840 to my new Uverse wireless network, the printer won't recognize new network.  The printer isn't showing an ip address that I can find.  Any ideas?

This did work verrrry well and easy too!!! You saved me from getting my **s kicked by my wife for telling her to get a new computer. Thanks Again.

In order to set wireless printer in Windows 7-based PC, you need to position it in a central location away from metal objects. Now, find out if it a Bluetooth or Wi-Fi as most new printers are equipped with either Bluetooth or Wi-Fi technologies. After, that enables the sharing of your printers by informing computer’s operating system about adding printer to its network. Also, install drivers for the same. Hence, in this way you can set up wireless printer on Windows 7-based system. You can also set up other computer systems in the network for using wireless printer.
