pavilion dv8000 audio problem

Great advice.  I have been searching for a solution for about a week now, downloading every driver suggested on every forum.

To add some clarity to this post...

When searching for the CP6308Ba.inf file you will not find it at first due to the sp35558.exe not being installed properly.

1. go through the steps listed above.

2. when searching for the CP6308Ba.inf go to the folder when your sp35558.exe is located and run it (double click)

3. go through the steps and when a pop-up that says installation is not successful, DO NOT CLOSE THE WINDOW

4. NOW, go the the swsetup folder and open the sp35558.exe folder and there you will find the CP6308Ba.inf file

... if you close the error pop-up window, the installation is canceled and all the files in the sp35558.exe file will be removed, including the CP6308Ba.inf file... but you cheated the system before it deleted it all.

5. continue with the steps above and you will be done!

All my problems disappear, including my quick launch button problems, and my no sound problems.

I now need to solve my "mass storage controller" and "PCI Modem" errors in device manager.

Mass storage should be sp35308.exe.  It is the TI vista driver

About to try this on my Pavilion dv8380us.  I'll cry tears of joy if my sound begins working.  Not holding my breath, I don't have that type of luck.

On an XP to Windows 7 upgrade, I was able to get sound working by loading, in this order:

* SP38266 - Vista Quicklaunch version 6.30J (ignore Windows' complaints, and 'use this driver')

* SP38443 - XP High Def Audio

I cannot say why 38443 doesn't always work for some.  Perhaps you need the Quicklaunch first, perhaps it's a condition of the state the system is starting from.

For whatever it's worth, as this is the wrong forum for a video issue, but the Nvidia GEForce Go 7600 card in this computer is incompatible with Direct X 9 and higher.  Windows 7 requires DX9 and the latest versions are currently up to 11, so after much struggling, we were able to finally get a semi-decent 1024x768 video setting so long as color was set to 16 bit, not the defult 32 bit.  Until then, it had been VGA.  Had the laptop still been on XP, I would have recommended not going to Win 7 yet, but rather downgrading XP back to Direct X 8, which seems to be the last compatible version of DX with this version of Nvidia card.  It's too bad.  The dv8000 (dv8327cl here) is a terrific machine, but because I believe (though not verified) the video chip is soldered to the motherboard, there is no video upgrade path unless Nvidia or HP wants to support it for higher levels of Direct X.

Go ahead an try it...but Create Restore Point first.  I can attest, after many, many experiments on various machines that restore points will back out HP's SPxxxxx patches.  Well, maybe I should temper my advice...you should know how to get into Safe Mode upon bootup (usually F8 or F10 or whatever your lower left screen shows), and be able to Restore Computer.

I personally have pinned 'Create Restore Point' to the Start menu in all my Windows machines -- that's how often I use this.  When creating one, make sure you name it something meaningful...maybe 'pre_SP12345_installation_point' or whatever will let you remember what each one is, which gets more difficult if you create lots of them as I do.
