I downloaded the Beta version and got some (beta?) "product code," but every time I try to install it on my Windows 7, 64-bit machine, the download process begins all over again. This took 8+ hours to download from the Microsoft site, and I just want to know if I should delete it and re-download it. Thank you.

Thank you for taking the time to reply--no one else did
But, yeah, I did download the right file; so maybe this question would be more appropriate for a Microsoft forum.
Thanks again.

I would try to download this file again.
Reset IE settings.

Download correct version from here.
BTW. It is really bad idea to use Windows 8 instead stable system like Windows 7.
Important information!
Before you will do anything please create a set of recovery discs.

I think it would help if you would clarify exactly what you are doing. E.g. download and install should be two completely separate procedures, separated by a burn or a mount of the .ISO file. After the download you can do a checksum before you do the burn or the mount. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a similar tool for checking the burn and that is where things can go badly and cause the install to fail or cause unexpected symptoms after the install has supposedly worked.
FWIW in my case I had clear problems after the burn and had to find a more reliable disk to use. Then the install worked fine. That was for the W8 DP without tools (because the W8 DP with tools wouldn't fit on a standard DVD). Then, for both the W8 DP with tools and the W8 CP what I did was use W8's ISO mount feature and do the install in the same partition as the W8. That also (amazingly) worked fine. In fact, I am posting from W8 CP right now. ; )
So, before you restart doing a long download check to see if you have an .ISO file downloaded and do a checksum of it. If the checksum seems Ok I would say that you would not have to redownload, just find a better way of doing a burn or mount. I suppose if you are downloading into the same partition that you are installing into it might not be there any more but think it would be worth checking for anyway.
Good luck

Thank you for the detailed response. I have posted this question to the Microsoft Answers Community and received extensive support. (I should have returned and posted that fact here.) Thanks again to everyone who helped. I'll consider the thread closed, as far as my participation is concerned, because I have yet to implement the Microsoft Community's suggestion.
