Re: SimplePass Fix for Windows 8?

Hi guys

Robert & hpsimplepassw8 ( extremely weird choice of a nick! :smileywink: ).

Do the following please.

  1. uninstall whatever drivers you've got for the simplepass.
  2. download your unique driver from the hp website.
  3. run it, to let it extract.
  4. close it when it starts to install the driver and you get the windows telling you
  5. go to your c: / drive, SwSetup folder, then drivers folder, simple pass ... right click on the setup.exe and go to the compatibility tab, chose windows 7 ...
  6. if it didn't work, then run it through troubleshooting which is in the compatibility tab.

It didn't work for me the first time ... but after I got my pc back to the factory settings, and installed windows 8 again, where it told me I should uninstall simple pass due to compatibility issues. afterwhich I did those steps, it worked

I hope it works with you two ... :smileywink:

best of wishes

Re: SimplePass Fix for Windows 8?

CORRECT SOLUTION! What I said before didn't work.

1) Simply install the normal Windows 7 HP SimplePass with Windows 7 compatibility settings.

2) When asked to restart, click cancel.

3) Run Windows Task Scheduler and create a new task, selecting start up as the trigger

4) Click browse and locate the Hp SimplePass executable

5) IT WORKS!

(It just runs the program at startup prompting the fingerprint hardware to activate).

Re: SimplePass Fix for Windows 8?

No, I already tried your solution earlier and it did not work, because the fingerprint reader is still not enabled on startup.

[ Edited ]

my method doesn't either, when I mentioned installing windows 8 again I meant not to give up and try again and again.

and the same goes for switchable graphics

Ps. not sure you downloaded the right drivers from the hp site

anyways, good that it works for you

Re: SimplePass Fix for Windows 8?

Hey guys

A solution for this problem can found here:

http://stanley.thepharmacopedia.com/2012/12/07/validity-fingerprint-sensor-driver-windows-8-windows-...

Just get the latest validity driver sensor

then the software mentioned there. You'll be good to go :smileyhappy:

Re: SimplePass Fix for Windows 8?

Authentec was acquired by Apple. I am still running Windows 7, but sometimes the program stops working when the pc boots or when I am using IE and I have to retype my saved password.

Authentiec plans to Windows 8 product free of charge at a later date.

Re: SimplePass Fix for Windows 8?

I got this working. I downloaded the drivers from HP. Of course they won't install unless you are on Windows 7. So I went to device manager and noticed one of the devices was unknown. I kinda figured it was the finger print reader. I checked the device ID and after a google search discovered that it was indeed the fingerprint reader.

Next I clicked on update device driver and told it I had the disk. Pointed it to the directory that the orignial failed install extracted everything to. I selected the latest version and it installed w/out a hitch. I scanned my finger over the reader and HP Simple Pass woke up and asked me if I wanted to add a new ID. Went throught the steps and registered my finger.

So far all is good.
