"Low disk space" error in Windows

As the title says, I'm trying to install Windows 8 but am getting told I don't have enough space despite having >100GB available.

Are you trying to install a clean version or an upgrade?  Is your hard drive formatted and/or do you currently have a partition with enough free space to install Windows 8?
