It could be a driver that is not working well... Maybe you could start Windows in Safe Mode so that you can find and fix problems on your PC. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/windows-startup-settings-including-safe-mode

Re: OMNI 10, 5600US will not get past "Preparing Automatic Repair"

thank you for quick response, but since this is a tablet, there is no 'keypad' to go to safe mode ...  unless i missed something .

Re: OMNI 10, 5600US will not get past "Preparing Automatic Repair"

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/windows-startup-settings-including-safe-mode

There are two ways to get to the Windows Startup Settings screen in Windows 8 :

If you're not signed in to Windows, tap or click the power icon from the sign-in screen, hold Shift, and then tap or click Restart

Or, if you're already signed in:

Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, tap Settings, and then tap Change PC settings.
(If you're using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, click Settings, and then click Change PC settings.)

Under PC settings, tap or click General.

Under Advanced startup, tap or click Restart now.

On the Choose an option screen, tap or click Troubleshoot.

Tap or click Startup Settings.

Tap or click Restart.

On the Startup Settings screen, choose the startup setting you want.

Sign in to your PC with a user account that has administrator rights.

Some options, such as safe mode, start Windows in a limited state where only essential programs are started. Other options start Windows with advanced features (typically used by system admins and IT professionals). For more info, go to the Microsoft website for IT professionals.

This review by tac is quite good: It says the tablet is excellent, but Intel has not worked well on the drivers... Read more...

Re: OMNI 10, 5600US will not get past "Preparing Automatic Repair"

Sir, again thanks for the reply, but I guess I'm not being clear enough.  All day, the unit is on, and shows the following: the HP symbol in the middle of a blank screen, at the bottom in the center, the words "Preparing Automatic Repair" and a 'thinkning circle of dots chasing them selves.

There is no start icon, I can not swip into another screen,

I guess i was hoping for some way to double push buttons to 'click' a Re-start mode.

thanks again for your time,

Re: OMNI 10, 5600US will not get past "Preparing Automatic Repair"

First thing I don't work for HP, not even have the tablet, I'm just trying to help. I've researching a little in the internet in order to reply.
I see what you mean... have you tried to turn off the tablet by pressing the power for 10 or 20 seconds?
Maybe if you turned off the tablet you could then enter in safe mode... Microsoft says this "If you're not signed in to Windows, tap or click the power icon from the sign-in screen, hold Shift, and then tap or click Restart" but how can you hold shift if there is no key board?... Maybe not even Microsoft has good instructions for this case... Unless... you tried to connect the tablet to a keyboard...
If you can't turn off the tablet... I guess it will turn off by itself as soon as the battery is empty. Then you could try to turn on again (pressing power for more seconds if it was necessary)
According to my research this same issue has happened on Asus T100 and others devices.
I hope someone with more knowledge than myself can help you too.

Specific support about HP Omni 10 I only found this... It's funny because it says also "Press this key or that in the keyboard" and the tablet has NOT a keyboard! (Microsoft and HP should update the support on this)

If you don't get to enter windows, but should you enter in the recovery mode, remember the HP omni 10 comes with a sd card to restore system.
