Advice for asking the very best question. Read here first!

Hi everyone, and welcome to the HP community forum.

This area is all about users of technology helping each other. The people reading and answering your posts need help in getting you the best answer. Please read this message for insight into how to write your question.

When posting requests for help, please be as specific as possible about the issue, rather than saying "it doesn't work", give info on any error messages, etc. Also give as much info as possible about your machine, such as full model number, OS you are running, etc.

It will help us help you if you list your computer information, the steps to duplicate the problem and what you have already tried.

We also like to know about your level of experience with computers.

Following are tips to get the best responses in the forum:

  • Search before posting  Use the "Search" box to see if someone has already asked and answered your question.
  • Post a public question, not a Private Mail(PM)   While there are some experts on the site, it is preferred that you post a message to the forum, rather than sending a PM to a particular person. Those folks that are hear love to help others, but find their time most valuable if they get to answer a question that multiple people can see the answer to.
  • Write good titles  Put a short problem description as well as your model in the title.
  • Post in the correct area  Make sure your question goes into the correct forum. A problem with a printer should go in the printing area, not the computer area you are using it with.
  • Provide details  Be sure to give relevant information including:
    • Problem Description
    • Printer Model, Notebook or Desktop Model Number. For help finding your model number, please try this site: Locating and Using the Product Number and Model Number
    • Operating System  (including service pack revision)
    • Connection Method - USB, Hardwired LAN, Wireless?
    • Error messages - on printer screen and/or computer, any blinking light patterns.
    • Hardware or software changes from default.
    • Recent hardware or software changes made to the system. Did you just do something that is causing the problem.
  • Watch for Feedback   Subscribe to email updates for your question and/or check your question frequently for responses.  Answer promptly any requests for additional information.
  •  Say "Thanks".  When you get an answer to your problem acknowledge the solution.  If the answer is helpful mark it with "Kudos" by clicking on the kudos button.
  • Mark it "Solved" If your problem is solved mark it.  This will help others with similar issues find the solution.

Advice for HP. Why don't you get people on the 800 number who know what they are doing. I was transfered 4 times plus 2 online chats still cannot tell me how to get on the web with a brand new machine. Now I must ask your customers how to fix it. thanks for the advice

Re: Advice for asking the very best question. Read here first!

Garen,

Your forum is ablaze with messages from angry, frustrated customers who all have the same problem: HP notebooks that suddenly are unable to recognize that they have a built-in wireless adapter. Given the number of people with the same problem, it is apparently that there is some design defect at the root of this. It is high time we have some official word from HP regarding what the cause of the problem is and what HP is going to do about it.

Let's have an answer soon. Very soon. Like tomorrow, January 16.

Kent

My Pavillion dv6408nr just pass 1 yr warranty and wireless card broken

My Pavillion dv6408nr just pass 1 yr warranty and wireless card broken. The problem is exactly the same as other HP Pavillion laptop. But I look up the supprt page (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&docname=c01087277#c01087277_identify). I belong to the product group with wireless card problem. However HP support told me my laptop is not the EXACT part number (mine is: GA447UA#ABA).

How rediculous! It is the consistent problem of this product line, and HP refuses to admit. We need to have the user community to fight for our right for free repair.

Re: My Pavillion dv6408nr just pass 1 yr warranty and wireless card broken

I seem to have the same problem with my Pavilion tx1000.  Since downloading Vista update the wireless adaptor seems to have disappeared.  Solutions suggested by HP (System restore, download new BIOS and download new Broadcom drivers) don't work and I have been told it is a hardware problem and to send it to service centre for an expensive out of warranty repair.  The laptop is only out of warranty by a week and I don't believe that this is not something related to an HP system design fault.  I need my laptop and don?t want to be without it for the 10 -14 days it would take to "repair" it at a service centre.  If I have to buy another laptop it won't be an HP if this is the only solution they can offer for a fault that is obviously theirs.

Re: Advice for asking the very best question. Read here first!

I am totally shocked at the numbers of people I have found on this forum with the same problem.!!

Come on HP....certainly you have at least some engineers working for you that understand what the issue is.  The cost to the company to repair all these computers is far less than what it will cost HP in lost sales if people do not have confidence in the equipment or service.

Re: Advice for asking the very best question. Read here first!

So this is the response from HP tech?!?!?!

"If the issue still persists the issue seems to be hardware malfunction with the notebook and needs onsite diagnosis to resolve the issue. Also, I would like to inform you that there is no know issue with the notebook. I understand that this might not be the most pleasant of responses. This happening in your case is purely a coincidence. HP conveys to you sincere apologies for any inconvenience you may have experienced."

Purely a coincidence??  Come on HP!!  Were we born yesterday?

How does one post to the forum and how do I find the different discussions ?  I don't see a button to select a forum nor a post button
