Compaq Presario disconnects from internet

I've had a wifi connection problem since I bought my laptop back in Decemeber. It did it when I first set it up, but it hasn't played up again until recently. I can connect to the internet, but after 5 or so minutes, the connection drops. On the panel in the bottom right of the screen it says I am still connected but with limited access (ie, not allowing me to browse anything). Then the yellow hazard triangle appears, and I can't browse the internet again unless I disconnect and reconnect, turn off the wifi signal and turn back on again or completely restart.

The router I am connecting to in a Netgear router through virgin media, and others connecting to the internet via the same connection are having no issues. Turning the router on and off again doesn't solve the issue. I can however browse fine if I plug an ethernet cable in.

I have tried using Google's free server and updating the network adaptor, but notthing has made it work.

Please can you help me.

I have a Compaq Presario CQ57, with Windows 7, and Google Chrome.

Re: Compaq Presario disconnects from internet

I have a similar problem although my laptop stays connected it keeps dropping signal strength, this is my second cq57 with the same problem and I have sent it back to HP and they say they could not replicate the problem but I have proved it is the ralink wireless card as I connected a usb wireless adaptor and it worked fine

Re: Compaq Presario disconnects from internet

hi there,

my laptop did eventually go back to be repaired by HP for the reasons mentioned above, as well as a host of other issues. when recieving it after 'repair' the same problem occured, and i went to where i bought the notebook from to get my money back or another laptop.

when the retailer rang HP to find out what was going on, HP admitted they hadn't solved the wi-fi issue, despite the repair note coming back saying it was repaired, because they had no other wi-fi cards in stock, which is ridculous for such a large company. they had only fixed the other issues (fan, lagging mouse, sound card).

eventually the retailer gave me the option of swapping it to the same value. so now i have a new HP Pavilion G6.

i would never go with a compaq again.
