Dual band wireless capability for dv6t-3100

Are there any dual band wireless cards that are compatible with the HP Pavilion dv6t-3100 (product # WW144AV)?  I'd like to upgrade my current wireless card to a dual band card, but I want to make sure the BIOS will accept it.

Hi:

Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook.

See chapter 3 for the supported wireless cards.

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02657339.pdf

It appears your notebook has an Intel processor, correct?

If so, I see two cards listed which should work (this is based on if you live in the USA).

Intel® Centrino® Advanced–N + WiMAX 6250 WLAN module for use in the United

States    HP Part # 619997-001

or...

Broadcom 43224 802.11a/b/g/n 2x2 WLAN module, HP Part #  582564-001

You must purchase one of the cards listed as supported in the service manual and it must have the HP part # on it or it will not work.

You can purchase at the link below and they may accept returns if for some reason the card you ordered doesn't work (it has been known to happen even though the part # is listed in the manual).

Changing wireless cards in HP notebooks can be a nightmare, to say the least.

Excellent. Thanks for the quick response. I'll give the Intel Advanced-N a whirl.

You're very welcome.

Please post back, and let us know if it works for you.

I probably would have gone with the Broadcom card, just because so many folks have tried to upgrade to an intel 6230 (different card, different part #) with no luck on other models.  But since I don't know of anyone who tried the Intel 6250 card listed for your model in your model and had no luck, maybe this one will work.

Good luck,

Paul

Re: Dual band wireless capability for dv6t-3100

Well actually it looks like I'll have to go with the Broadcom anyway because HP's PartSurfer doesn't allow me to purchase the Intel. It shows the part exists, but there isn't an option to add it to my cart. And I'd rather not take the risk buying one outside of HP.

Re: Dual band wireless capability for dv6t-3100

I agree. I would not buy outside of HP because they may not take the card back, if it doesn't work.

HP should take it back in the event it doesn't work, and you tell them that very part is listed in the service manual.

Hi:

Below is the link to the most recent driver for the Broadcom card you are purchasing.

You're very welcome.

Your feedback is important, so please post back and we can help others based on what other forum members report regarding the installation of a different wireless card in their HP notebooks.

I was lucky. I have a dv6810us notebook and it came with a lousy Atheros 5007 card that not only is just wireless G, but it won't allow you on the internet if you have a router model from around 2010 or newer w/o a driver update.

So, I read the service manual and one of the supported cards was the Broadcom 43221 a/b/g/n card.

I got one used on eBay for $7.00 delivered, and it works great. I queried by the part number in my search on ebay, so I was assured I got the right one.

So, not only is it a wireless N card, on my 5.0 GHz band where I have set my router for N only, it connects at 300 MBPS.

It connects at a respectable 144 MPBS on my mixed mode 2.4 GHz band.
