I have a Pavilion G6. The wifi was working fine until last Friday, when suddenly it wouldn't work. It IS picking up nearby wifi connections, but not the one in my house. IT just doesn't appear on the available list at all. Checked the internet modem and it works with the ethernet cable. I wonder what the problem could? It's really annoying me. Also, the wifi is available on my housemate's laptop, but not on mine.

Hi:
I would run the system restore utility. Select a restore point to a time before your wireless went out.
If you are unfamiliar with how to use system restore, this link should be of assistance to you.

Hi:
i would see if a driver update to the WLAN card helps.
What model wireless adapter do you have installed? I will send you the link to the latest driver for it.

Under Network Adapters, it says Broadcom 4303GN.11b/g/n 1x1 Wifi Adapter, and then there's a Microsfot Virtual Wifi miniport adapter, and Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller.....

Hi:
Below is the link to the latest driver for your wlan card.
Powercycling the modem and router is a good idea, but you need to know how to do it. There is a specific order if you have a separate modem and router.
1. Shut down all PC's.
2. Shut down the Modem and router.
3. Power on the modem only. Wait 2 minutes or so.
4. Power on the router. Wait 2 minutes or so.
If you have a modem/router combo, then you don't need step 4.
5. Boot up the PC and see if you can connect.

Hi:
You're very welcome.
So, what fixed it, the driver update or power cycling the modem/router?
I take it the driver update fixed it?
That is good question.
I am not a fan of using any software tools to search for updates. I usually let Windows update let me know if there is a driver update, or check my PC's support and driver page a couple times a year to see if any new driver releases have been posted.
A good time to check for a driver update is when you have a problem such as you just experienced.
Most of the time though, you won't have a problem. It was just not your lucky weekend -- computer wise.
Best Regards,
Paul

Yeah the update fixed it. Yeah generally I rely on Windows Update. But anyway, good to know that there's no real way as such, just to check now & again. Thanks for your help Paul
Headache has vanished now haha! Something so simple in the end!!!!
