Hi all,
I recently bought a HP DV6-6C50TX notebook PC. This PC runs windows 7 Home premium 64 bit(default OS). I have a problem with using wifi internet connection with this computer. The built in wifi card in the laptop would lose connection to my home network randomly at any point of time.
Usually the wireless indicator on the taskbar would display 5 bars (which should mean good connection). However, when the wireless decides to cut off for no apparent reason (i did not disable the wifi card), The wireless indicator on the windows taskbar would display full signal strength in my home network but with a yellow exclamation mark. During this point of time i have no access to the internet. The only way I can regain access is by making the computer disconnect from my home network, and then reconnecting again.
After reading other forum posts, i found that the power management settings for the wifi card could be causing this issue, so i went to device manager>network adaptor>Atheros AR9485 802.11b/g/n WiFi adaptor>right click and select properties>power management and then unchecked the box "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power". I applied the settings and restarted the computer. These settings appear to have no effect to helping to retain my wifi connection.
Is there anything else I can do to solve this, such as installing a newer driver? Please Help.
Just in case, i will post my device driver version here:
Driver Provider: Atheros Communications Inc.
Driver Date: 21/8/2011
Driver Version: 9.2.0.444
Digital signer: Microsoft Windows Hardware Compatibility Publisher
Any form of help will be appreciated. Thank You! ![]()

Hi
Please try these steps might help you to resolve your issue.
1) Go to device manager and uninstall the driver and restart the Notebook and have it check.
2) Please update the Bios & Wireless driver from HP website.
3) Reseat the Wireless card from the back panel off the Notebook.
Let us know how it goes!

You can update by searching for the device manager-->network adaptor, right click the atheros adaptor, then click update driver software. Select install automatically and follow the prompts. If done right, your driver verision will be 9.2.0.444. Note that it does not seem to solve the issue though ![]()

I think the best solution would be sending the notebook itself on their service centre..
@Lerronx.. Did you try sending it to an HP service centre? Maybe I will be sending my one this week..

I didnt have time to go to the service centre
. If you are going to the service centre, i hope you could share with us what was their response.
Hopefully they will change our wireless cards to a more stable one like those intel wireless cards.
This way, we can help other people using this computer and experiencing the same problem. Thanks!

Sending your laptops for the repair center will not solve the issue unless the adapter is in failure if it is software related issue you need to solve it.
Try the steps below, after update you system firmware and adapter drivers, and let me know if any solve the issue:
- disable your anti-virus protection as well as the firewall just for testing purposes, test it.
- Test in safe mode with networking.
- Check also which options are selected on the advanced settings tab of wlan properties.
- If your laptop have a high performance and power save graphic cards, please try to test it only on high performance, if possible check inside bios setup under system configuration if you´re able to change it to fix mode instead of switchable mode do it and test unit.
- On advanced power options, wlan settings, be sure running batteries and plugged-in to a grounded outlet both are set to maximum performance.
- Also some microsoft updates can be the root cause of the issue, if need un-install them one by one until you test them all and be sure any is causing the issue.
After all if you continue to have the same problems might be really hardware failure and wlan adapter might need to be replaced, if you feel confortable try to test another wlan adapter and check results.
Regards,
