I recently purchased an HP Envy 17 and typically use the wireless connection.
When backing it up to my home server, I perfer to plug an ethernet cable into the Atheros AR8151 adapter.
The issue I'm having is that nothing happens when I plug the cable into the jack. In fact, the adapter is not displayed in Device Manager.
I have to restart the computer about 4 times before the lights for the adapter begin flashing and then the adapter appears in Device Manager and I can actually use it.
The driver date is 1/16/2012 and the version number is 2.0.12.13.
My BIOS version is F.06.
Any ideas on why this happens?
Thanks.

There might be a duplex mismatch here. Try setting your LAN adapter to 10Mbps/half duplex. Hopefully this will do the trick. ![]()

Thanks. I'll give this a try and see what happens.
