I just purchased the above laptop. The wireless connection does not appear to work properly. When I am very close to the source, it picks them up, but with exremely weak signal. When I move the next room, it loses the connection, when other computers pick up the signal very well.
I have tried to connect to wireless connection at a friend's house and it did not even pick up the signal there.
At times, it does not even pick up the signal at my house when I next to the source.

Which model and brand wireless module is installed? Use the HP Support Assistant to see which wireless module is installed in your notebook. Use the Learn section of the HP Assistant and in specifications, click on more information. The image is from my loaner HP Envy17-3002ea notebook.
The specs say Intel 2x2 802.11 B/G/N. If that is what is installed go to Intel and down the latest driver. I have always had my best success with Intel wireless by getting the driver direct from the source.
Your wireless may also be Broadcom. There are a few versions of the driver available at the HP support prtal. Download the latest driver and install it if this is what is installed in your notebook.

Thanks Erico
That is exactly what the nice ladey from HP Support suggested and after spending a couple of hours downloading that and the one of Bios, I continued to have the same problem. I guess I am heading back to the store to probably get a Sony or Mac.
The support lady wanted me to ship it back so they can change the wireless card or something.
What a shame, every thing else about this laptop, I love.
Thanks again Erico

It was Intel. I returned the product. I do not remember which Intel, though. But, I bought it from BestBuy and you can look it up on their website. It is the one which is available in store. Thanks for your help, again.

I have the same problem. Add to that the computer just freezes every once in a while and I have to unplug it and pop out the battery to reboot. I thought the freeze problem was with Firefox but it does the same with Chrome and IE. This laptop replaced another HP which performed really well...this one though is just one headache after another. Like you it was a model done expressly for Best Buy.

I can't keep a connection for more than 10 minutes...downloaded the latest Intel drivers no luck...if I disconnect and reconnect it is fine...If I can't find an answer by Tuesday I am going to have to take back to BestBuy as I can't get any work done...
Anyone find a resolution....this is ridiculous. My previous HP I could use anywhere in the house and never had a wifi problem

I have found that if I am right by the wireless router I can get 35 Mbs, if I move 15 feet around two corners I get 15 Mbs, and if I sit down 18 feet away with the left side of the computer pointing in the opposite direction of the router I get 5 Mbs. It appears the adapter is in the left side of the laptop and is very sensitive in terms of decreased performance based on distance and orientation to the router. I had to replace our wireless router this week and even a better router has failed to improve performance. I will be visiting Best Buy as well this week.
