hi there guys,
i wanted to know if the wireless network card that is onboard on HP Pavilion dv6-6b51ea, which is the intel centrino n1030, connects at only 65-72Mpbs, is that normal? i have a Sky Broadband wireless router, debatable whether or not is a real "N" but please read below:
i have another computer, a 2 years old Asus Netbook which is currently connected on my home network at 130Mbps....is it me or this network card sold with the PC is not really great? even if is a new one? or am i missing some setting?
my driver installed is the latest intel, which is 15.1.0.18. the funny thing is, many months ago, the other pc (asus) was connected at 65Mbps too, then i downloaded some other more recent drivers and BOOM went to 130Mbps.
i have win 7 64 bit ultimate.
any ideas? or the HP with the intel centrino N1030 connects at 72 Mbps and thats it?
thanks
Gabrio

Hi, Gabrio:
According to the Intel specs for the card it is capable of up to 300 MBPS connection speed.
http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/processors/
The connection speed you are getting is half of what it should be, and more typical of an N-150 card.
I would have a look at the advanced settings for the card (click on card in device manager, click on the advanced tab).
http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/wlan/sb/CS-0
Make sure the following settings are set:
802.11n Channel Width (band 2.4/band 5.8) = Auto
802.11n Mode = Enabled
Ad Hoc QoS Mode = WMM Enabled
Wireless Mode: If there is an option to select N, select it.

hi there
i just checked the options, actually the QoS was disabled, but didn't make any difference, what i do not have is this
802.11n Channel Width (band 2.4/band 5.8) = Auto
in fact, i have only 802.11n Channel Width band 2.4 = Auto, under advanced..
do you guys have also the 5.8?
thanks
gabrio

i am also thinking this could relate to the Sky wireless router, in fact i just posted on the forum there to check what link speed other users are getting...

Hi:
Not all Intel cards have all the same settings.
What you see is all you have.

hi
it appears that is a limitation of the sky router not the HP hardware, and by the way may i recommend this fantastic piece of software > http://www.metageek.net/products/inssider/ it will reveal the max speed of your router's link speed.
takes a bit to startup.
cheers
Gabrio
