HP Pavilion dv6821el connection away from home

Hi everybody, I'm new here.

I searched everywhere and tried everything, even re installing drivers, but i bet they're not the problem.

This is:

I have this Pavilion dv6821el with Vista on it, service pack 2. AT HOME I can connect wireless or cable, in fact I'm here right now.

But when i try to connect somewhere else, like at school, it doesn't work. I tried wireless or lan connection, nothing works!

I don't know what to do anymore. If i have to change my network card I will, because what's the point of having a notebook if i can't use it out of home?

It might be a bug in Vista. A friend of mine on the same home network has troubles to connect even to our home network. It causes problems for me as well because when he is trying to connect, I get disconnected too. I'm not sure if he can connect to public wireless networks but he has a serious issue at home when he needs to reboot his laptop and then our Linksys router 3x a day..

The problem is that i HAVE Linux on a partition and i still get that problem..i won't forget it, but i don't think i will find it!

Hmm, this looks quite serious. When the card won't work well on Windows ok but even on linux, it will be an issue. I have checked a maintenance and service guide for DV6000 laptops and there are 802.11a/b/g compatible wireless cards. If you are interested, there is a manual how to modify the Insyde BIOS for HP laptops. You can disable the whitelist and install any wireless card you want..
