Hi,
Just purchased a new notebook for my son but can't get it to work wirelessly (it connects fine with an ethernet cable). Have been though all the troubleshooting wizards but with no joy.
Relevant info;-
- Updated Network Adaptor - Ralink RT5390 - to the latest version (3.2.12.0) but made no difference
- The Get mac command doesn't show any physical addresses that are connected (unless the ethernet cable is installed). IP config command also suggests that the wireless LAN adaptor is not connected. Device manager looks fine though..
- Have other windows 7 (dell) laptops accessing the Linksys wireless router (using 802.11g) without any problems.
Help Appreciated..

No new information in the link that I have been sent I'm afraid. I had already tried manually connecting to the wireless network just in case that would help (but as it was already in the list of available networks I wasn't convinced that it would make any difference).
When I try and connect I just get the unenlightening message " Windows was unable to connect to SSID XXXX". HP connection manager informs me that the Wifi is disconnected.. Windows Network Diagnostics then doesn't add anything else useful - I have investigated the router but my existing laptop etc continues to access the network just fine..
Thanks

This is interesting. Wireless adapter is listed under device manager, correct?
What error message are you getting when trying to connect wirelessly? Or can you even see wireless networks at all?
Possibly wireless assistant is managing your wireless network, try having Windows to to this. ![]()

Apologies for wasting peoples time - all my fault! The problem was with the router security, I have a MAC address filter list which only allows specified devices to connect to it. When I first connected to the Internet I entered the mac address that was then showing up as connected but that was in fact the address of the Ethernet adaptor. When I added the other address (as displayed when entering the Getmac command) then the Internet sprang into life. What had slightly confused me was that that address before this point was showing as disconnected and only after the connection was established did that change (makes sense really).
Lesson to learn - switch of router security until established that first connection ?
